Whats your favorite laundry Music?

Carpenters comes to mind....

My vote is for the Carpenters...and only the Carpenters.

Why? Well, I guess it's becasue I have loved them since I was a small child....I used to hum Top Of The World to myself when I was a child when I tried to get to sleep. And Im on Top Of The World when im cleaning cooking and doing my household duties. It's a built in thing I guess.

Every time I do any housework, including the laundry, I pop in one of my many Carpenters 8 tracks into my hifi in the basement which BTW my house is a tri-level, crank up every thing to a point where I can hear the music wherever I am in the house.. and I go to town.

I have all of their eight tracks, records and Cd's including Voice Of the Heart, Offerings, Ticket To Ride,Made In America and etc..even have their Christmas Portrait CD record and 8 track.

In fact, during my Christmas decorating spree before the several parties we hosted...I almost drove Martin mad...and would usually leave the house when I would start cooking, decorating, cleaning or down laundry during the holidays as soon as he heard her first note...by "my other woman" as he refers to Karen.

I pop in the Christams Portrait CD....

And he would jump up and go out to the garage to do soemthing
or go over to our frinds house to play PS2...?

Music, music, music....

Hey - saw some vintage LPs at the thrift store yesterday; 5th Dimension, Henry Mancini, Bing Crosby, Scott Joplin....anyone interested?

Not sure of the quality of the lps, but they were cool.

Hmmm....I think a combination of types of music is my preference. And it varies. Most of the time, it will be oldies on WCBS FM101.1 - where Mickey Dolenz formerly of the Monkees is now the weekday morning host. Although they are changing their line up to be more 70's - 90's, there is enough 60's to keep me happy for now. Nothing beats Motown for laundry.

Other times I will break out the 50's standards - Sarah Vaughan and Frank Sinatra for laundry and ironing. Sarah Vaughan Sings Broadway - Great Songs From Hit Shows is one of her best recordings and showcases her incomparable vocal power, technique and range with some wonderful songs and terrific arrangements to back her up. Why Frank, Sarah and occasioinally Perry Como, you ask? Easy. My mother never argued with us over our music choices - there was none of that "How can you listen to that crap???. She did however say "You can listen to whatever you want to because no matter what I think, you will anyway. But in addition to that, be open in your taste and by the way, you WILL listen to really great music. And you will find that over time that is the music you will want to listen to again and again". Of course she was right, and occasionally she too would listen to some Motown, Lesley Gore and the Beatles....

I forgot to mention the Carpenters. How can you not get misty when "Close To You" comes on? Not to mention that's a Bacharach song.

The Carpenters always seemed to insert a strange song into their albums, like Calling Occupants, a cover of the Klaatu classic.

Seems I'm not alone in late 60s/early 70s lite pop.

Weird Songs,

I just got their 35 anniversary edition CD set. All the old standby's are on there; including

Top Of The World, Rainy Day's and Monday's, Goodbye To Love, For All We Know, Close To You and All you Get From Love is a Love Song...

What I diddn't know is that this group ( Her bro. Richard who BTW was hot in that day) cut like over 70 songs. 42 are included in this CD set...

She did a country inspired tune that I lisen to almost daily called : Sweet Sweet Smile

She did a southern tune: Jambalaya which sounds cool also and has a really awesome bass sound to it.

And others.

BUT has anyone noticed that no matter who you are, if you ever hear a Carpenters tune onthe radio...becasue of her impeccable voice; you know almost from the first note that it's Karen?

I do have other favorites also like: Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac, Boston, Chicago, Beatles (who doesn't), Four Seasons, Mama's and the Pappa's and more anon. I just prefer Carpenters becasue it get's me for whatever reason in the mood to do what I need to do...

I usually have top 40 radio on while washing
(and cursing over some of the lousey songs on at the same time)
but I usually listen to Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Dirty Vegas, Elton John, Paul McCartney, or whatever "diva" I happen to have handy. My kid goes "ooh, Dad likes disco, yuck"

The Beatles Yellow Submarine sountrack and the Frigemore

Want an amazing wash experience? If you have a Frigemore, Get a copy of the Beatles Yellow Submarine soundtrack.

Load up your Frigemore and set it for normal wash, extra rinse on.

Start the CD on track 1. The song yellow submarine will start. In the third line "So we sailed into the sun..." where the water starts, start the washer. The washer tumbles all the way through Hey Bulldog, Elenor Rigby, Love You To, All Together Now. The first spin starts during Lucy In The Sky with Diamonds. It goes through the rinses for most of the album. It's All Too Much takes you through the final high speed spin.

I'm with you unimatic

The delightful sound of washers to say the least. Each has it's own distinctive sound and they are music to my ears. But if I had to accompany them with music, its the songs which have the blues shuffle (the rockin rhythm guitar) like Johnny B. Goode and red river valley (instrumental) by Johnny and the hurricanes. These songs and the washers of the late 50's together bring back a ton of memories from my childhood. Buddy Holly would also be a good choice.
