Does anyone use WhatsApp and do you find it beneficial for communication? I ask because there are a couple of wi fi calling phones being launched mainly on the Vodafone and EE networks and wondered if having WhatsApp did the same thing?

I prefer Viber to WhatsApp, but use them both (family and friends all over the world). WhatsApp is a little clunky for me in terms of interface.

I use WhatsApp for messaging, just because you can see if the person has got/read your messages. Plus it works on wifi where there's no cell service.

Luckily for me, all but a couple of my frequent contacts all have iPhones, this makes this app unnecessary.

It is interesting that they do allow advanced feature messaging cross platform. Plain ole SMS is just so 90's...

I use Whatsapp all the time.

In Brazil the phone operators charge per message and calls per minute, so they're super expensive.

Tim, Vivo and Oi are desperate trying to ban Whatsapp in Brazil, saying it's affecting their business.

Well, now i live in the US, it's awesome to have a plan with a real 4g internet. I never thought I'd someday have a Skype conference with my friends walking on the street and that's what i do. Friends and relatives in Brazil feel really jealous LOL.

And Whatsapp is much better because it allows me to send files, pictures, short videos or even call FOR FREE.

Now i just need more friends here in the US, specially in Dallas, because I feel bored on my days off with nothing to do and I don't know anything here.

BTW, my mobile/whatsapp is (661) 238 6684.

Just wondered if people used it because its owned by Facebook now. I have read on some of the online reviews through google play store that their numbers have been 'leaked' out of their address book to Facebook.

Me and everybody I know uses Whatsapp, mostly for sending messages, have tried to call someone but our internet here is not really geared for it.

There has also been reports in newspapers and the like that our major cellular providers wants to curb the usage of Whatsapp due to the fact that it eats into their profits, nobody really uses the old SMS way of sending messages and it is very expensive too. Cellular costs in SOuth Africa is really high as they charge by the second on some type of contracts.

But the South African public is addicted to their cellphones and will upgrade at least every two years, rather rediculous, when you take into account what a new phone actually costs when you go out and buy one, instead of taking it on contract.

But to answer your question yes I find that it is much easier and cheaper to just send a message via Whatssapp, if it is really urgent then you make the call.

Regards
