In what year was the last and final GM Frigidaire washer rolled off the assembly line?
I remember when Silo appliance stores were still around in '86, going with a friend of mine so he could purchase a TV. I went over and looked at the washers, saw a Frigidaire, and lifted the lid, and kinda GASPED!! Where was the patented up and down agitator? This one had a back and forth one on it. I thought that maybe GM had done away with it, and now had a different mode of agitation, just like everyone else.
BUT...the shocker came when I didn't see the legendary "Made by General Motors" on the front of the washer after I put the lid back down. The salesmen were all busy with other people, so I couldn't ask anyone about when they had (White-Westinghouse) acquired Frigidaire, so I let the issue drop.
Seems to me that Westinghouse has fallen by the wayside right after they bought out GM/Frigidaire, and they took a good name with it. How sad.
