I maybe wrong but....

didn't Maytag go from using the mercury lid switch to the mechanical combination lid/off balance switch with the switch over to the helical drive models in 1956/1957 or did they still use the mercury switch in the early helical drive models that had the tub light built into the edge of the lid.? IIRC they used the AMP style lid on the models with the light in the lid didn't they?PAT COFFEY

My 1958 Maytag has two mercury switches. One for the tub lamp, and another as the lid switch. I think this was the last year this setup was used. I disabled the lid switch in 2004 during the restoration. The out of balance is still operational with this setup.
