This is a friend where I’ve never been to whose house before, I went in his laundry room, only to find his 2023 Whirlpool WTW4855HW3 washer constantly draining.

This seems to be a very common failure with these washing machines. I believe Whirlpool now offers these boards for free.

Basically, the washer is stuck on flood mode because the board thinks there’s water in it due to the pressure switch that’s bad on it.

All Whirlpool VMW machines actually have flood modes built in them so it doesn’t overflow. So if a house floods and the washer fills with water, it’ll drain out.

Sometimes the older VMW’s control board went bad causing this but it was much less common.

Similar Whirlpool top load washer constantly draining

My neighbor we had a few years ago had a similar issue with the same model washer. Their washer would suddenly turn on and start to drain then turn off. It did this all night until the next morning. The next morning wife started a load of laundry and the washer worked flawlessly. The wife knew I had knowledge how washers worked. I went in and looked at the set up. I immediately noticed the drain hose from the washer was pushed to the bottom of the drain line behind the washer. The washer was siphoning used wash/rinse water from the drain pipe back into the washer. Washer sensed water and would turn on the pump. I pulled the drain hose up and used a zip tie to leave only 6” in the drain pipe. Problem solved. She told me the repair company had been out 3 times prior swapping out the control board under warranty. The repair person didn’t even notice the drain set up.

There's a major recall out for all makes/models of Whirlpool VMW machines from 2023 - 2024 (all months) with that issue. The integrated pressure sensor is bad and the board needs replaced.

Revision A of the control board is available online. BUT there's a Revision B!
