I know the guy...
having been a writer/editor for an electronics magazine, and I've bought stuff from him, he's one of the biggest vintage dealers. Living in Chicago area he's been able to pick up a lot of inventory over the years but he grossly overprices everything, particularly on eBay. He says that he'd sell individual pieces at eBay prices, but HIS idea of eBay price is not most people's who really know the stuff. In one case I was willing to pay for a very rare amplifier but had no choice given rarity. He basically refuses to price to any actual market, but sometime does sell at his price especially to the crazy Asian market.
The Marantz Model 9s he references commonly go for around $8K a pair, I can only imagine what he'd want. We had several Marantz Model 7 preamps and others 10 or more years ago when they were semi-affordable; no longer, never would or could buy tube Marantz these days! Good luck to him, unless some crazy from Hong Kong or Japan comes calling he'll have that stuff for a long time!
