Where would I find plexi-glass? I need a couple custom cut pieces of plexi-glass in order to complete a fun little project I've been working on. Once it's done I'll unvail it with pics and vids of it's maiden washload!
My Home Depot carries it but they don't do precision cuts. Should be able to get a piece at almost any hardware store or home center. Plexi-Glass cuts real easily with most standard wood-working hand or power tools.
Just a thought, a window glass shop, for household windows, make a Paper templet of exactly what you want. They cut some for our security door, and it does come in different grades of thickness, I did not anticipate that question until the guy asked me. arthur
If you do decide to cut it yourself, you might want to test
whatever you use to cut it on an out-of-the way place. I
might be confusing it with a different type of plastic, but
cutting/shaping with a highspeed tool can generate heat and
cause melting/gumming up of the tool. (I think I tried a
jigsaw on some type of plastic and it melted and closed up
behind as the saw went forward.)
When cutting plexi with jig or saber saws-use a low speed to prevent melting-and be sure to use a NEW SHARP blade. If you have a varible speed bandsaw this works best.Again use the lower speed. An alternative to sawing-the place that sells plexi may have a special cutter for it.It works like a glass cutter.this works well and no worry about burning and makes a cleaner cut than any saw.the little cutter works best if you are cutting a large peice in half or whatever-if you are making cutouts-a saw is then better. If you are sawing-leave the paper covers on the plexi-prev ents scratching, and chipping of the edges from the saw.Again make sure your saw is SHARP.
