This is probably the dumbest question ever, but where can one go to find some background information on how this website got started, who runs and pays for it etc? And who's the impossibly sexy guy in the washer videos?

Jeff

Depends on the video,

several members have put them up.

As for the owner, webmaster, and general all-around great guy, it is Robert, who posts as Unimatic1140.

I'm married, not dead.

Honey just becuase I'm on a diet doesn't mean I cant look at the menu. Just don't eat anything.

...and so, the beauty contest begins.

Stay tuned, world, for the swimsuit competiition / picture thread, followed by the ball-gown thread.

I believe the wmv to which you refer is indeed Mr. Seger,
aka unimatic-etc (for extra points guess his favorite brand of vintage washing machine!)
I also believe that he was one of the very early participants
of the Yahoo Group known as Classic Appliances.
Further, it is my understanding that when the original owner
of aforementioned Yahoo Group grew weary of the responsibilities of group owner, Mr.Seger took over ownership/
responsibility. I am uncertain of the exact year all of this
transpired. During the latter part of 2004 Mr. Seger, [aka Samantha; because of his programming magic (think Mrs Stevens
of the TV sitcom "Bewitched") and infrequently aka Endora;
when he feels beyond a certain degree of annoyance (see previous parenthesized text) with affairs] wrote a program
that is, as you see it right here, right now, known as AutomaticWasher.Org . All interested parties migrated from the Yahoo Group and have enjoyed a state of blissfull contentment, at least as concerns their interest in "Vintage
Home Laundry Apparatus" He maintains, owns and handles the
technical and business aspects of the site.
I think many, if not most of us, would concurr with your opinion; he is very attractive to the Popular Lavendar Set.He
is a all around "Great Guy" , the kind any reasonable person
would choose to introduce too family and friends. He is
blissfully married and resides somewhere in the Midwest. This
information was provided as a courtesy, verification is the sole resonsibility of the intended recipient!!!

small correction

Mr Seger never took over the Yahoo Group, the Group owner didn't grew weary of the responsibilities. We just thought it was a great idea to have a website of our own and Mr Seger was so nice to build it. The owner of the Yahoo Group is a respected member of this website. The Yahoo Group also still exists.

Happy 7th.

Thanks Jeff and others :), you are too kind. To answer your question Jeff I designed it, I run and I pay for it. There was a classic appliance group started on yahoo in 1999 which worked well, but was not searchable by the search engines of the day such as yahoo and Google. So I decided to create a dedicated website for all us washer people which would make it easier for people to find us just by searching Google and the like.

Actually looking at the calendar I see yesterday was this websites 7th birthday! It was on the evening of May 20, 2001 that I launched it. It started out as www.classicappliances.com, but in 2004 when I re-wrote the old forum (Applianceville) to the new Threaded Forum (Discuss-o-Mat) I also changed the name of the website from classicappliances to automaticwasher.org. I did this because I got so much email related to stoves and refrigerators, I wanted to make it known that this website was primarily about washers, dryers and dishwashers.

If you look at the archives you can see the discussion posts going all the way back to <a href=http://www.automaticwasher.org/TD/ARCHIVE/ORIGINAL_CLAPP/ARCHIVE-0.html target=_BLANK>May 20, 2001</i>.

You have great taste - he is very sexy!!

Happy Birthday to AW.org

And thank you Robert for one of the coolest corners of the internet I've ever come across. The online experience has become such a cesspool of commercial greed, trolling sociopaths, intentional vandalism etc, I'm happy (and it's a wonder) that you've managed to avoid the onslaught.

I have just over 900 websites in my Favorites folder, but less than a dozen of these sites are enjoyable enough to make it into my "Daily" file. AW.org is one of them. Keep up the great work!
