Not many large appliance stores with washing machines left in Manhattan proper.
Mostly one will find "PC Richards" stores located all over, and do have a decent selection. Try also Gringer and Sons over in the East Village. Nice selection but sometimes salesmen can be so helpful not as to leave you in peace if one just wants to "browse".

Where to look at new washers in Manhattan
Basically their are a few PC Richards in New York city. I usually go to the 14th street store.

Last year I was at a store with Asko and Miele appliances. I think it was Elgot Sales at 937 Lexington Avenue.
