VERY NICE !

I cant wait to see this machine ! My mom had a ABC-O-Matic washer.....same wash action as this one. I would have never dreamed that I could once again peer into one again.....I could cry! Mom was telling me that she could remember as far back as when I could walk I would push the yellow cosco stool up to the washer, climb up it and watch the machine through the whole cycle. If she knew it was going to run for thirty minutes, she would know where I would be for thirty minutes. HMMMM I wonder how many times she threw some towels in and started the wash to get me out of her hair! MOM !!!!!!! <p> Thanks GREG for hosting this convention!

Oh Greg, It is just beautiful!! I love the lighted console and the whole machine looks to be in such great shape for its age. Can't wait for more details. Terry

Sorry, should have put the year... 1955, model AW2 - the very first washer with the Kelvinator name on it (obviously made by ABC) Jon C. told me today that for this machine, they essentially turned the ABC-o-Matic machine 180 degrees (controls) at the back) and added the panel with lights. I did run the machine, sans water, and other than a couple little issues with the timer dial and shaft, it seemed to run fine - nice and quiet. It will need new belts, hoses and a thorough cleaning inside and out but the interior rubber parts are still soft - the agitator boot is still flexible and soft.

Washer script

The style of the script that says "Automatic Washer" looks identical to the style used on GE washers of the same years.

Where's the Automatic Washer by - Kelvinator?

Wow this is a real treasure. I have a picture of this baby from a ad I purchaced from ebay awhile ago. With the lights and all the bells it looks real exciting. Wish I could be their to see it.

Splish Splash!!!

I was wondering if Kelvinator Washers predate 1955 as their first year. I remember my aunt's Kelvy had two simple controls on a slightly raised unlit back panel. They might of been more like "wheels" than knobs. Just loved watching all those suds splash up against that window!!! Sigh.

Yeah that is definitely impressive. Mid-20th-century aesthetic. Something about industrial design during that era, seemed to almost revel in the newfound ability to mass-produce clever labor-saving devices in practically every field, that were affordable by practically anyone.

I wonder how the industrial design of the present era will be viewed by people 20 years from now.

Wow!

What a beautiful machine! It's a pity that neither Kelvinator (and ABC) and their "centric action" design never took off -- at least not here in New Jersey. There's a POD that repeats every couple of months that shows a Kelvinator machine that has what looks like a "time line" style timer. I wonder what year that's from and if if predates this machine?

Thanks for sharing.

What's in the Center?

Is there a control in the center of the back console or is that just a decoration? I love this machine and what you have done to restore it!!!

BEAUTIFUL!!!

What an amazing machine Greg, where did you find this one? You really know where to look!

I didn't realize those early Kelvinators were so pretty!! Blue tub, horizontal knobs, lighted temperature/cycle selections, and the flourescent backlight that casts a neat glow on the control panel--WOW. Glad the rubber parts are still good as well; IMHO the fact that it works is as important as the beauty, if not more! Keep us posted on the work!

Now I'm REALLY looking forward to the Convention...:)

My oh my

Gorgeous find, Greg. I'm a sucker for a lighted panel! Can't wait to see this little gem in June!

Very Nice Greg!

Now that looks like it could do some serious washing!

I'm starting to think you and Robert have contacted all the salvage companies around and have some sort of line on this stuff! I mean really guy's could you leave a few for us poor old souls! I'm kinda glad neither of you live very close. LOL!
I might stand a chance at getting my 55.

Greg! What a beautiful washer!!! Was there ever a dryer that matched this or were the dryers still ABC-OMatic? The control panel looks almost like the early Hotpoints (with the "Wonder Dial") Truely a treasure. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Mark

That round area is the logo, it could also have a light behind it, but doubt it. Greg, correct me if I"m wrong. And by the way !!!! yee haw!!!

Impressed in Pennsylvania

Never seen anything like it here on the east coast. I could look at it for hours. You certainly are a vintage appliance wizard.

All those indicator lights on the back panel are fantastic. I can't wait to see this beauty in person at the convention!
