Which Dryer To Choose?? Help Really Appreciated!!

Needing a new dryer after the second hand 8 year old whirlpool finally popped its clogs. It had been needing new drum supports, felts, and belt for a while now, but the belt finally gave way and its gone to dryer heaven.

Now I have the task of choosing a new dryer. It cant really be more than £170 Including delivery....

I have 2 choices narrowed down so far!

Tricity Bendix from Johnlewis £149inc delivery and 2 year guarantee.

OOOOOOOOOR!!!

This Servis dryer, £150inc delivery from Sussex appliances online.

Ive not heard bad things about Servis dryers, and Ive heard that they do decent reverse action. None of that stupid 5 second reverse crap!!

Anybody any ideas if the Tricity bendix does a good reverse tumble or is it like a 5 second reverse, and 10 min tumble??

Any help appreciated, any other machines any one can find too would be a massive help..

THose are pretty simpel dryer so I would go for the tricity bendix, same as the zannusi model. It looks just better build.

Dan, hope this helps you out, i heard that the reason people seem to have no trouble with servis dryers is because their zanussi dryers!!

The tricity one should prove reliable! maybe you could pick something up on ebay?

I have a Zanussi condenser dryer and it does do little reverse tumbles after going one way for ages. I have never had any bother drying bedding and such. Always comes out a state from the washing machine but once i have untangled it all the dryer sorts it out! I do love it haha. Its very quiet but i think Servis and Zanussi dryers are pretty quiet anyway.

I think both machines are a good choice. I would favour the Tricity Bendix one becasue its from John Lewis and the guarantee is pretty good.

Hotpoint

Why not get a Hotpoint vented dryer? I got one to replace the condensor Hotpoint (the rear bearing wore out after 4 years of very heavy use and time didn't allow for a repair). The vented model is MUCH quicker - does a load in about 35-40 mins, and uses less intense heat, so the clothes come out much softer. I would suggest avoiding a condensor if possible - my sister has the TOL Bosch condensor and it doesn't perform very well - the automatic cycles on it and my old Hotpoint condensor didn't competely dry (even on the "cupboard dry" setting), whereas the timer-model Hotpoint is simple and great - and very cheap.

I had considered a Hotpoint Vented dryer, however Ive head horror stories of them grinding through the rear of the cabinet when the drum supports are worn in!

Servis

Hi Dan, well I've had two servis dryers and was impressed with both. Good build quality proper glass door and quiet. I loved the fact that it dried quickly at a lower temp than other dryers as the wattage is fairly low they dont get very hot like some others. It had a powerful airflow which i guessed made up for it and it didn't shrink my jeans. The Bendix looks nice too though even though i'm sure its the same dryer as the Servis with a different door and detail.

Don't see many of the Bendix dryers about so it has rarity value lol

AFAIK Servis dryers are unrelated to Electrolux group machines.

No, Servis is part of the (Antonio) Merloni Company, the other part of the family.

I would go for the Tricity Bendix, it looks like that one has a stainless steel drum and the Servis doesn't have that.

When buying a dryer I always consider the lint filter since it has to be cleaned so often. Which one is easier to get to and clean. I have a Maytag Neptune which has the lint filter in the front of the drum. It is easy to get to and slides in and out with ease. I never have liked the Kenmore lint filters that were at the top of the cabinet. Everytime I would pull it out I would get airborn lint dust everywhere.

White Knight

Hi Dan

As you know from my video I have a White Knight. It was all I could afford at the time and it's not bad although, it doesn't seem to get as hot as I like. It leaves clothes very crease free though.

If Zanussi do make the Servis, then why pay for the name. I hope whatever you get it turns out well.

Well it does indeed begin with an I and end with a T. I'm very pleased with its performance so far, it can dry a heavy load of cottons spun at 1200, dry on low heat in 80 minutes. Got towels dry from 1600 spin in 50 minutes!

I'm happy with it :-D. Very even reverse tumbling too!

Nice one Dan. I bought my Mother the same dryer last year in silver and she loves it. Nice big door too.
