Hi all, would like some advise on buying a new fridge. It seem that here in South Africa most of the refrigerators seem to be fridge/freezers. I would like to have some shopping guidelines buying a total fridge and freezer. Any brands that you would not consider or that one must buy.

regards,

Is it true that Liebherr made fridges and freezers for Miele?

They certainly look alike?

Thank you very much for your advise.

Regards

Any other brands that you would recommend or not like say Samsung or Lg?

Yes it is - loads of nominal 'brands' are rebadges of others. Liebherr make very stylish products, and why not have them under their own name?

As for which type, it depends on what your local market offer is. IMHO I would however suggest that you make sure both fridge and freezer are frost-free/auto defrost (still some manual defrost ones out there) and ideally have separate motors/compressors for each part...

Hi Mieleforever,
Just over a year ago we bought a new L.G.top freezer to replace a 6 year old G.E. S.B.S.which had endless problems and was going to cost a fortune to repair.
Ours is a 559 litre the largest top freezer capacity unit available here in Australia,(well it was then, don't know now though),and it has not missed a beat it has a manual water dispenser built into the fridge door which you fill up with either bottled or tap water and there is a tap in front of the fridge door.
The feature which has impressed me the most though is both the delibox (for storing chilled fish and or meats)and the fruit and vegetable box, with this fridge I am finding that both fruit, vegetables and cold meats in the delibox seem to last a lot longer than in previous fridges we have owned.
Also I had 2 independent repairmen tell me in no uncertain terms to stay right away from Samsung, they look very nice, however they are a terrible company to deal with if you do happen to have a problem with a Samsung fridge, spare parts and after sales service are a total nightmare and both these guys told me they hate having to do repairs on them.

Hi twinniefan,

My bookeeoer that works for me at my firm have had problems with here 4 year old LG. What happened was that somehow there have started a leak in the pipe system which as you know is nowadays located within the walls of the fridge, the fridge was in for repairs at two different LG agents, both of them saying sorry the that the fridge simply cannot be repaired do to the fact that the leak was within the walls of the fridge.

The guarantee was only for a year so unfortunately no where to go but get a new fridge, so my stance with LG & Samsung these days is a little bad.

Had a problem with my three year old LG diswasher and the service was attrocious.

So I am still looking out for that really impressive machine, dont have to have all the fancy bells and whistles just do its job and do it good for the next 20 years.

But thanks for the advise.

Regards

In reply to your last message yes, I am looking for a full freezer and full refrigerator. But these days they really do seem to become very rare. Most is fridge/freezer. I was wondering how about a Siemens? They are kinda looking to be quite good and have a relatively good reputation. Any thoughts?

Regards
