hi, I have been looking around on this forum for a long time and thought it was time to post something.

I am going to buy a second washer and wondered what I should buy: I have found an miele hydromatic W698 age: unknown, spin: 1100rpm, state: good and price: 55 euro
asko gloria type 9502 age: 16 years old, spin: 1300rpm, state: just had an big maintenance check-up and price: 150 euro
so, which one should i buy?
picture of the miele is in the link

I like....

...ASEA....

...and given the detergent drawer is on the right hand side, this is an ASEA design, not an ASKO...which is a good thing.

The ASKO/ASEA's of that age are pretty indestuctible provided the timer is working properly. If you set it to say programme 3, it should advance to the start in about 15-30seconds with only a few light 'click click click'. It should sound smooth as it advances not as if it is 'grinding' internally.

My mother has only just replaced her ASEA Cylinda 12000 (1989 outer door, 1200 spin) and the chap she gave it to fixed the 'dribble' from the detergent drawer (small split in the hose to the fabric conditioner dispenser) but the old girls timer is rough and seems to take forever to engage the cycle...once there, no problems though....

...and they sound lovely just as they start too....very spacey...

The Asko for sure,

After seeing Mikes in action its far more flexible than Miele's lot in terms of programming for those who like the ultimate in flexibility with water levels wash/rinse actions and spin speeds.

and the Askos are just far more entertaining IMHO with the cabinet seperate from the tub.

Also Mieles soap dispenser is not exaclty that well thought out either with lots of places dirt mould and detergent/softener deposits can settle whereas the Asko's are extremely self cleaning and low maintainance,

Impressed enough to want one!

Actually...

Both (modern versions of) Asko and Miele are as good and as flexible as each other - especially models with the water plus and gentle action programmable functions, can set spin speeds to the 100rpm on the models with digital displays, plus had no issues in 3 years solid use with any detergent gunk/mould issues - rinse it under a tap every 3 months or so and thats all the maintenace the drawer needs.

I'd probably get the Asko between those machines though - the stainless steel control panel makes the decision for me

Just my thoughts :-)

Wow targus! You live nearby. I live in Ardooie! (Roeselare) I personally think that both ASKO and MIELE are great washers. The asko is indeed more flexible and spins faster! The Miele is has offcours more 'standing' but they are both good washers.

gloria

actually it's an gloria and the problem is that I can't find any information about it

does anyone know gloria

It must have come from a shop in Oostende (Google for "gloria wasmachine").

Now I can have a closer look at the machine it seems that the gap between the outer cabinet and the front plate of the tub is quite narrow. My Asko has a much wider space and that is certainly needed to accommodate for the tub movements. Are the tub movements of this washer more restricted than with more recent Asko machines or is it just an optical illusion?

It would appear...

....that compared to ASEA or Asko, there is a rubber trim around the panel that could prevent little fingers getting between inner and outer cabinets....

...and there are less options buttons too than I thought
