Laundry day is coming up on 09/12, and I'll be needing some powdered detergent. I've had to go to various stores for different items (but like the majority of us on here, I check out the detergent aisle regularly for possible new items and prices on various brands). There are quite a few choices which are in the 4.50-5.50 range right now.

The contenders are:

Gain (don't know what the net .oz is) 5.00 at Walmart (rollback price).

Surf (no longer displaying "with "All" stain fighters" on the box) 100 oz. 4.96 at Walmart

Cheer (same as Gain on the net .oz, but I do know box is smaller than the others) 5.25 at Food 4 Less (local supermarket)

"All" (what I'm currently using, 100 oz box) 4.50 at Big Lots

Oxydol (basically the one I'm leaning towards, as it's been ages since I've used the powder) 100 oz. 4.89 at Price Cutter (local supermarket).

Arm and Hammer with Oxy Clean (I'm curious if this formula will clean better than the "with bleach" version) 100 oz. at Dollar General

I won't need a liquid for at least the next month or so, but I'm kinda thinking about the new Wisk that was mentioned in another post. I wish I'd had known about the 3.00 off coupon, but I went to the website and printed one for 1.00 (expires 10/03).

Now it's your turn. Let's hear from you guys (and gals) on which one you would buy.

Hmmm...

I suppose Cheer or Oxydol. I haven't had Oxydol for over a decade or more. I don't know that I would recognize the scent at this stage in the game.

im a gain guy..

i like the scent of origional. definATELY STAY AWAY FROM THE MANGO SMELL, HORRIBLE..
oxydol if liquid, dont buy. the liquid is like water, tossed it out after i bought it. tried it again for nostalgia. definately not like the origional one..
Surf? i used to love the fragrance.. wonder if its the same fragrance.
Gain to my usage, has been working great for me.. i marry it up with gain fabric softener..
good luck in your decision.
i have the 3.00 coupon for the wisk- cant fdind it in stores yet.. anyone tried it? is it worth buying for performance??
thanks let me know.

Yes...Sears....definately......the big box for 275 washes is for 22.99 on sale right now.....

you can get a smaller one for 12.99, I think it does about 125 loads

Check their website....everything they offer, including sale prices are there....www.sears.com

The Oxydol powder is excellent, with both enzymes and oxygen bleach. Very subdued scent. For me it works about as well as Tide with Bleach but without the excessive lingering aroma characteristic of P&G detergents.

I have been unimpressed with Surf in recent years but it may have been changed since Lever sold it to Sun, I dunno.

I get great results from Arm & Hammer with the Oxy Power. I finished the box of Gain I had, paid $10 and some change for an 80 load box. When I went to get more, the A&H was like $.93 more plus 15 more loads. Great scent and great results.

I ran out of the Sears powder detergent in the big bucket and didn't feel like going to Sears so I bought some Tide HE powder and dumped the box into the big Sears bucket and it almost filled it up. It surprised me because the box of Tide HE wasn't that terribly big.

Ariel

I just bought a box of Ariel with Actilift, professional from Costco. I normally use Persil small & mighty, but wanted a change.

It smells great, and washing performance is good to. reading in the Which Magazine it came out as a good performer.

I just got some Arm & Hammer with oxi liquid HE. I LOVE THIS STUFF!! It was on sale at pubix for $3.99 for a 35 load bottle, 65oz. Did a load of colors and they turned out great!!. I have always loved the cleaning power and scent of Gain, but at over $10 for a box or bottle, I'm going with A&H
