I was trying to talk myself out of buying these really cool doors that I found at an "occasional sale" in a town 40 miles west of Minneapolis. Obviously, the obsessive, compulsive, tiki side of me won.

Fred - I went back and bought them after I dropped you off on Saturday!

Don't know if any other AW members like tiki memorabilia but these are really great. They are double doors from a local tiki restaurant - I'm thinking quite possibly the Waikiki Room at the Hotel Nicollet. Scott (55405) - do you remember this restaurant? The place opened in the early 50's and was gone by the early 70's. They are 7 feet tall and 3 feet wide (each) and weigh about 150 lbs each. These are quite old - the lock on the door was added/replaced later.

Fortunately for me, I have an understanding partner. Jason and I are going to mount them to the wall in the den. It should be pretty cool. I'll take pics when it's done.

So cool!

What a great piece! They remind me of a bar called the Kon-Tiki here in Montreal that closed the year of my high school grad (it was a Montreal tradition to go that place on Grad night!). Definitely worth going back for!!

Those doors ROCK !

What an incredible find ! Congrats!
I bet that if you ever decided that you wanted to sell those doors - perhaps on a venue like 1st dibs or some other decorator shopping spot - they might fetch a nice price.

Vintage Tiki stuff is awesome - can you actually verify which local restaurant they might have been from ? It would be great to know the true origin.

Bliss

I was always in the doghouse and used to hide the junk and collectibles I found trying to find a way to sneak them in and not get caught. Now I live in constant amazement that Peter sees nothing odd at wanting to buy another mixer when I have 30 or bringing home something I already have one of. There is no greater gift a couple can give each other than a life lived in Peace without the need to hide anything. Robert and Fred it fills my heart with joy and fosters hope for those still looking for Mr Right to see you so much in love and in love with being together.
