I need to remove the bottom access panel on my 2003 washer, to inspect and clean.

I took the back panel off, and vacuumed what I could, but couldn't get toward the front. I heard a mouse scratching around in it one night, then saw one run out a little later. I want to clean it good, and make sure the mice didn't chew on anything.

The service info I downloaded said to lay the machine on its back, but to do so, I'd have to remove hoses. I have an appliance dolly, and will need to use that to lay it down. Will it cause a problem to lay it on its side instead? I have to do this by myself, as I'm not allowing anyone else into my house at this time.

Don't lay it down flat, helps avoid water running out from various potential sources.  Prop it up with a suitable object under the back of the cabinet below the console (which should provide clearance for the hoses) and there should be access to remove the bottom panel.  Can also be laid over on the front (with similar support).  I'd wouldn't do the left side to avoid potential damage to the bleach hose.

Removing The Bottom Of A Calypso Washer

I have worked on dozens of these washers, I usually just pull it forward about 18" and lean it back against the wall.

There are three 5/16" screws near the front of the bottom panel, once removed the bottom panel drops down and off.

From there you can inspect and clean the bottom panel, on most Calypsos the bottom is dirty and maybe a little rusty from splashing water, detergent etc.
