I posted here because I suppose it's right on the 20 year bubble, but most people probably consider them vintage.

Problem is, it will not respond to the "start" button. It will run through the soak-soil-soak-soil 99 second diagnostic just fine, quietly and with no error codes. It fills, pumps, nubiates and drains. But if I call up a cycle and press start; no go.

Logically I suppose it could be a defective start touch button... Although it feels/looks completely normal. (The washer and matching dryer are in very clean condition). Before I open up the control panel, anyone have a thought?

I have also been advised there is a little bit of a following for these among sadists/washer enthusiasts. Personally I like the machine, but if someone really wanted a clean set of these, I'd consider a trade for something vintage. I'm in the Detroit area.

The touchpanels are not designed to be directly repaired.  Could be a physical problem with the membrane contacts for Start/Pause, or a problem with the electronics in the membrane layer (which connects to the machine control board via ribbon cable).  Access would require peeling off the overlay which is not intended to be done and pretty much destroys it.

There are currently three on eBay.  Two claim to be NIB, one used.

Check with John/Combo52, he may have some spares.

Yes it is likely a bad control panel membrane, I am out of the WP version, do still have several white used KM panels.

Hi. Sorry, it's been a busy week.

Now that I've taken the control panel apart, I can see (as was said) that it the membrane cannot be serviced. I was hopping to follow the ribbon back to the circuit board and momentarily make contact on the "start" button contacts to see if the machine will start after a long slumber (before I invest more time/effort).

Does anyone know if a schematic is out there that would show a pinout of the contacts?

I appreciate the offer of the KM board, but part of the appeal in this is the matched set.

There's a pinout table on the tech sheet and in the service manual with a procedure for testing the membrane keys.

First of all, thank you DADoES

For the email that contained the pin-outs. The bag was present in my machine, the documents, long gone.

Today I found time to do some continuity tests, per the manual. Problem is, I found no continuity with ANY button, even functions I know work. I used 2-3 wires in a stranded test lead to simulate the tiny pins into the female connections. The pinouts are obvious to follow. Then I used my Sperry VOM meter on the lowest ohm setting, which does zero-out when the leads are touched. Yet still, no continuity on membrane buttons... any of them. Is there a trick here that I just don't get?

I had the same problem attempting to test my panel when it went dead several years ago.  Could not get any reading on anything.  I had two spares and also couldn't get anything on them so swapped one in for lack of any choice, which it worked.  No one here offered any suggestions on testing methodology when I brought that issue to attention.

Lol! OK, that makes me feel a little better. Plan B is just going to be wiring in a momentary contact switch to the "start" pins and mount it to the backside of the console. If this does the job, I'll just keep an eye out for a membrane panel.
