Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I used to have the Inglis-branded version of that dryer. My parents got it new in 1974. I had the dryer briefly and I gave it to my cousin who still uses it.

ahHAH!

DADoes: Those have different frame panel trims, I didn't notice til you mentioned their age differences.

Comments like these have helped me look at appliances much more carefully. I haven't gotten any richer,

but the journey has been priceless.

1972-3 Whirlpool DW in Post # 29

I heard back from the seller today and am making plans to get this really cool and rare DW up here to join the Wall Of Dishwashers @ the museum.

Even thought there was no other DW that performed any better than WP DWs of this era [ and the majority did not come close ] Whirlpool was not widely know for building great performing DWs. WP did enjoy a great reputation for building great washing machines, dryers, refrigerators and freezers, but DWs were a bit of a sleeper for WP really until WP started building most of the Sears Kenmore DWs around 1984.

And the rest is history, after WP bought Kitchen-aid, WP is clearly the best DW maker in North America and really most of the world.

The Inglis (and RCA) branded versions of these dishwashers were very popular around where I live, about 50% of dishwashers I saw when I was a kid were Inglis or RCA.  Quite a few from my friends and family went into my hands over the years but I never managed to keep one.

I'd like to find a TOL Royal 100 similar to this one, my uncle had one which was from around 1973 that had cycle lights. There was one for sale locally two years ago but I didn't get it. Kenmore also switched from D&M to Whirlpool-built dishwashers much sooner in Canada. I also had one of those (and unlike the newer US models, they had the door-mounted utensil baskets just like the Whirlpool-branded versions). John, you would have loved to work as a service tech in Canada during the 1970s-1980s as Whirlpool-based appliances were very popular here (except for their cooking appliances which didn't dominate the market like their fridges, dishwashers and laundry products).

Congrats John!!

Great save!! This one looks like it's in great shape!

You're right on about Whirlpool Dishwashers. They were very thoughtfully designed machines which really cleaned well. I had a tough time convincing our customers to consider Whirlpool when they were looking for a replacement. Most went KitchenAid (also good) & GE. When Whirlpool developed the Power Clean module it truly revolutionized machine dish washing (IMHO).

Enjoy, and please share some pics when you get it!
