This has puzzled me for years, I've tried searching on this forum too with no success.
On DD machines, there is a timer detent just before it neutral drains on the wash cycle. All machines highlight it on the timer. If you put the timer in this mode and turn the machine on with the lid switch engaged, the machine will agitate regardless of water level. And you can trick the machine in to doing a suds return.
What is the point of this?
