Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer

I have a friend that has a direct drive Whirlpool (don't know the model number)
that will agitate but will not spin. I believe there is a part that is prone to break that puts this machine into spin. Any ideas will be appreciated.

If it agitates and drains, but doesn't spin at all..could be the neutral drain kit that is located inside the transmission. Could also be a worn clutch lining. If you can start the tub by hand during a spin cycle, or if it spins slowly, most likely a worn clutch.If the machine fills and agitates, but doesn't advance into a drain/spin, then you might have a bad lid switch. On some models, the lid switch just controls drain/spin, but will still agitate. On later models, the lid switch controls agitation and spin/drain, but will still fill. Clear as mud?
