Whirlpool Electronic-Control Washer/Dryer set for sale

When down in Manchester NH to pick up the lastest vintage washer and dishwasher finds,  the niece of the owner of these appliances told me she had an 'old all-pushbutton washer and dryer set' she wanted to sell.  

Thinking it might be one of those cool vintage Maytag sets,  I ran screaming down the street to see it....

The set in question is actually a fairly fancy-looking Whirlpool set that I am going to guess is from the 90s.   I am not really into the electronic machines, but I thought perhaps someone here might be interested.

Hi Paul,

They're belt drives, either from the Late 70's or early 80's. I'm pretty sure they're the ones that come up as POD from time to time.

They appear to be close to whirlpools first effort at Electronic controls.

This is the last of the belt-drives, around 85-86.  Glenn will know for sure, think he had this particular set once...

 

Mine has a bit different panel styling but the controls are likely the same.

These I believe are Whirlpool's last belt-drive electronic machines, circa 1985 or 1986.

The woodgrain stripe along the top of the console, and the lack of the "little lip" on the top of the consoles says to me that these have the 1985 console that was shaped this way on all or most of the new 1985 models. The dryer having a Dura-White drum (a late 1984 introduction) fits with the rest of the time line as well.

I'd say that's a pretty jazzy set, and it looks to be in great shape. The dryer looks lightly used without the demin discoloring these can pick up.

I would think someone would want to consider these! They look pretty dandy indeed!

Electronic WP Pair

Yes these are 1984 models but as Gordon pointed out built no earlier than mid to late 1984 . The staining that some dryers get comes from one of two usage factors, 1 running the dryer with a bad vent system [ somewhat clogged or otherwise restricted ] or 2 drying new jeans etc that were washed in too cold a water temperature.

 

The bad vent system allows more heat and steam build up during drying and the fabric dyes end up bleeding and staining the dryer drum. Washing new clothing in cold water does not wash away the excess dye and then when the cold water washed clothing is put in a hot dryer the dye bleeds onto the dryer drum and other clothing in the same load.
