Greetings all,

With guarded anticipation due to pending logistical hurdles, I'm doing some preliminary planning for the '57 GE Combination fridge/freezer from RCD's pile.

The Whirly it's replacing will be up for grabs as a result. I'd like to be sure about its age. The model number is EVT51ZM. It's a top freezer model with adjustable half-shelves. I'm guessing it's early 70's.

If anyone can provide the date of manufacture for the Whirly, it will help me to give accurate information about it to a potential new owner.

Thanks,

Ralph

Also, if anyone has a copy of the owners manual for this one and it's not too much trouble, can you post it here?

Thanks so much for your post. I was guessing 1970 at the earliest. I'll check the serial number too.

I hope I can find this Whirly a new and caring home when the time comes, as it appears things are shaping up for me to get the GE Combo from RCD within the next couple of weeks.

The Whirly has been a reliable machine for the past 20 years I've owned it, and it even survived being in a virtual oven out in the garage when we were gone over a weekend and the temperature reached a record 109. It may be a plain Jane but at 40 years old it's absolutely nowhere near ready for the krusher. I'll try to post a picture, but it's in a tight space so I don't know how well I'll do.

A Couple of Shots

It's a tight space and the full length pix were out of focus worse than this one.

Oh, and the GE will be shorter by a few inches and not as deep by a couple, so it's going to fit nicely in the Whirly's spot.

That Whirlpool sure looks minty, I hope it finds a loving home. I'd love to bring it to work (need one in the break room) so I could give the idiot facilities manager a heart attack. He's one of those wacky environmentalists that lives to go overboard in every aspect. He's got our data center running so bloody hot that it's on the brink of spontaneous combustion.

Actually, a better choice might be GE Monitor Top!

Dan, feel free to come and pick it up when the time comes if you decide to get serious. It has a couple of dings up front and somebody used white paint on one side of it but it presents well in spite of that. I can get interior shots when it's empty if you'd like.

If they were abundant and cheap, I would! The sacrifice of small interior space in the GE would be worth the "shock" factor :D

I'll have to discuss this with my boss. Facilities claims there are no funds to purchase a fridge (BS, they have a bottomless pit of funds). This way, we get a fridge, this ones gets saved, I get to make a point, have a slice of AW and home at work, and store this one at work for free in case my personal one at home dies. I like where this is going.......

OK Dan

I'm going to double check with my partner's daughter today and make sure she's not interested in the machine. I'm pretty sure I remember her saying they got a freezer for the garage so probably they don't need this fridge.

One thing you may have to do is take responsibility for vacuuming (or brushing) the condenser coils. My experience with break room fridges is that they're poorly maintained, and most have exposed coils on the back that need no attention. You'll probably have to be the custodian and get the dust off the condenser once a year.

I'll keep you posted.
