My sister has a 6 year old whirlpool side-by-side which has several issues. The first being the water on the door runs so slow it is just a trickle. I replaced the filter about 6 months ago and it got worse. Now the ice maker, which was replaced the same time as the filter, isn't keeping up. She lives at the end of a dead end road, last house, so there might be a problem with calcium and lime build up? The water feed is 1/4" copper. Help I don't know what the problem could be.

You'll probably need to disconnect the copper line at the fridge and then check water flow.

I also remember reading complaints on a fix-it site about Whirlpool and KA fridges having reduced flow after changing out their filters, and that replacing a simple part would fix it.

My father has a six year old GE with a working ice maker, but no water in the door. I posted the problem here and some indicated it might be a frozen water line. The filter was changed and did not help the problem (and ice maker was working fine before and after filter change, so it doesn't make sense). Dad doesn't really care about water in the door, anyway, he just wants ice occasionally, so he doesn't want to bring a repair person in to check it, and I suppose it's not a critical problem worth repairing, from his viewpoint.

If she is using one of the cheap, basic, saddle valves it's not uncommon for the little hole it pokes in the water line to get clogged. I never use those any more, just T off a feed and use a real valve.

Matt thanks I have heard of too many problems with the saddle valves so I used a real valve when I installed the water line. The problem started when the new filter was installed, she had left that detail out till today, so I will try the local parts store and see if I can replace the part that rp2813 is talking about.
