Whirlpool will layoff close to 5,000 in the US and Europe.  They are closing the Ft. Smith, Arkansas plant totally in the next few months moving the production to a plant in Mexico and 2 plants here in the States.  10 years ago Whirlopool was the largest employer in Ft. Smith at around 4,500 employees.

IIRC

GE is back because they got a kings ransom  for R&D of the Geotherm water heater if it stayed in the U.S.  Whirlpool i am just about convinced has little interest in the U.S. other than unloading overpriced junk.  I am craigslisting, why even bother, i know some money goes to folks in retail and transport of goods in the U.S.  Maybe we can start using Mexican currency to buy their goods?

Lost the Fort in the 90's and now whirlpool.  I know several people in the area theat work for or jave family that work there at Whirlpool.  Really bad.  Even up here 60 miles north the job market is pretty bad.  Have a son sho got laid off in Feb. and still looking lucky his wife teaches so they are holding on.  They really don't want to leave the area and kids are happy in school.
