WP Micro-Shelf Range

Built by WCI-Kelvinator, these gave us a lot of problems when new.

We had a customer in Bethesda Md that had 16 service calls on one of these in around 5 years, I took a picture of it being crushed at the scrap yard after I threw it off the truck that she kept on her refrigerator.

We replaced with a Hotpoint-GE Hi-Low range that she still has.

Of the Whirlpool ranges built after 1957 were much in my opinion, First they were built by Newark Ohio incorporated, then WCI Kelvinator, the 58 thru 68 models were really bad, some didnt even have oven vents, and most, like their Kenmore counterparts, baked only with bottom heat, and had doors that never closed right, after the Newark plant closed, Kenmore kept using Roper as their supplier, while Whirlpool switched to WCI Kelvinator real garbage, They LOOKED like the AMC Kelvinators but were no where near as good

Hans, Whirlpool made ranges in their Hamilton, OH factory through mid 1961. This was originally Estate Stove Co. (prior to 1955). Some models during that time could have been made in the Newark plant, which was part of Roper beginning in 1964. The relationships between these companies is complex, and all involve varying degrees of ownership by Sears.

It was a 1957 or 1958 TOL WP electric range with a beautiful plastic control panel that had sliding linear switches that melted down when CU tested the ranges by leaving a rear surface unit on high without a pan. The picture was so sad looking with the sagging plastic.  It sort of looked like a really old face without the dentures. I wondered if they invented that test after looking at that range.
