Help Support :

well...

we can hope for the best on this anyway....poor Hoover has suffered greatly, now for some new life!!

When you do 100% of your operations in the US....

yeah, like that's bad for the country.

Man I am sick of this "world economy" BS.

Hi Laundress

I wonder if hoover was topheavy with management jobs, pension and retirement benefits prior to the maytag acquisition? Research and development might of been or might be the place to cut costs,Hoover IMHO had a good vacuum as late as the 1980's. I realize there is a need to cut costs on steel, however the plastic convertibles were still good machines, that did a good job at cleaning carpet. Sure hope someone buys them out that will return to It beats, as it sweeps, as it cleans, a proven technology, why reinvent the wheel? Simple throw away bags, as opposed to that POS $20.00 filter.just my 2 cents. alr2903

Too bad Tacony can't afford them...

They'd make quality Hoover's and market them as such; just like the better days.

PS

correct me if im wrong, but isnt Hoover already moving towards ending all production in the US? like the commercial vacuums. what products does Hoover currently produce in the US?

I thnk that this really blows!!

I had assumed that they had already sent everything overseas. i am now suprised and sad that this is happening. We all knew that this was a matter of time before they would ax something. I was also shocked, but not suprised to see that the new Whirlpool Duet sport says right on the label in plain sight"Made in Mexico"
What will become of our country? What is next?

Who's the buyer? Who's the buyer?

The suspense is killing me. On the one hand, I think, "anyone can manage it better than Maytag." On the other hand, I know that there are plenty of companies who'd jump at the chance to plaster the red disk on ever-cheaper discount-store wares.

You know who I'd like as a suitor? Berkshire Hathaway. Warren Buffet's company. It's generally well managed and usually resists the temptation to cut quality in the name of cutting costs. It also owns Scott-Fetzer, the Kirby Vacuum Co.'s parent.

Just a random thought.

Hoover's production.

As far as I know, the only thing being produced in North Canton are some of the commercial machines, and some SteamVacs. The Z may also be assembled there.
Most things are made in Mexico, parts and all. Some things--low-end canisters, FloorMates & low-end uprights, are made in China. There are still a few offices in NC-Engineering & R&D, from what I understand.

Only a small part of the problem.... here's my two cents.
It (everything being sent overseas) won't stop until the consumers start paying for and demanding quality products (i.e. stop shopping for the cheapest thing they can get at WalMart and other stores alike), or until the American job market bottoms out; as more and more companies lay off their employees (Maytag/Whirlpool for example). That, and when those who are actually doing the manufacturing in countries overseas--for low wages--start to demand a more affluent, western lifestyle.

it makes me very sad to think of the last of the *old* Hoovers. the commercial Convertibles and Conquest. the end is coming nearer and nearer. 2007 will/would have been the 50th anniversary of the Convertible. must be some kind of record. the Maytag Master wringer and the Hoover heavy duty upright come to mind as also having very long runs.

Production

Isn't the El Paso, TX facility still producing some units? They assemble(d) some WindTunnel models there.

The self-propelled WT's are Mexican, I know.
