Whirlpool rebuild completed

I have been rebuilding a Whirlpool Malleys 1896 model washing machine. It is the version with the heater. I am testing it out as i type this (will probably upload a video of it in operation) one thing i notice is it is so much quieter with exception to the pump that i accidentally damaged (I will replace it with a new one when it arrives)

one thing i notice is how slow the heater is to heat the water. it has been going for a little over an hour and the water is only warm to touch. I am testing it to hot so that i can confirm both thermisters are working properly.

i have done a quick test of the spin and the agitate and both seem to work properly. it also drains properly. (the pump is just noisy, i believe due to the belt being on the outside of one of the posts (i corrected it as soon as i realized i had done this) its not leaking at the pump but it just makes an odd rubbing noise.

Congrats on getting it finished. From cold, it generally will take a couple of hours to 60degC. I ran the calculator below to show how long it should likely take.

The heater worked much better to boost the temp rather than to heat it from cold. 2400 watts can only do so much.

I have uploaded the video (the loud noise that starts in the background during the first drain cycle was my cat learning not to touch the release cord on my compressor)

The pump noise is really pronounced in the video. When i up ended it to identify the noise i confirmed it was the pump. i think i have bent its shaft. A new one is still on its way waiting on its arrival.

the only thing i am a little dissapointed about is the duck noise during the spin seems to still be there a bit. not sure whats causing it as the shaft does not have any play.



Suds saver does work i just have it bypassed at the moment so i can use 1 pipe rather than 2.

The funny noises is probably the agitator rattling on the basket center post it’s a pretty normal sound when there’s almost nothing in the washer with a load of clothing it probably will go away.

You could also have something to do with the snubber on the tub cover sometimes those make a little knocking noise or rubbing noise.

Hopefully the new pump will quiet down the pump and you’ll have a nice usable machine.

Because of the long heat up time to heat 16 gallons of water you definitely want to use it with the suds saver if you’re doing many hot washes.

congratulation on getting it to work if there was a canadien version of this model i wonder how it would look like?

leaking

my rebuild seems to have caused a few leaks. there is water leaking between the tub and the base plate. i may need to recheck the tub
