Whirlpool slow fill

we all know that the new top load washers fill slowly and then ATC shuts off the hot valve if hot water is not detected within a minute or two making fills slower if your water pressure is less than desirable. well i found and removed my water pressure restriction contraption whirlpool installed.

basically remove the filter plugs from the inlet mine was dirty badly and if you look inside you will see another black washer around a orange plastic ring.
use a small screwdriver and pry it out its a easy removal and makes a night an day difference. BTW the water inlet filters are now double filters the usual round one an then there is a smaller filter inside of the bigger one lol WP is getting a bit overprotective now.

I did this with my Cabrio....made a world of difference in fill times, I used tweezers, their made of rubber and pop right out...never did understand why they installed a restrictor.....but trust me, you want those filters in place...

By leaving those filters out you have put yourself in serious jeopardy of a possible flood. Those filters prevent those little pieces of "crud and sediment" getting caught in the diaphragm of the water inlet valve. If that happens the washer can easily lose the ability of shutting off incoming water and water thereby can run continuously into the machine whether the machine is running or not!

I would not advise running that machine without those filters in place. Either buy new filters, or clean the old ones and get them back in place before reconnecting your water hoses. You don't want to be cleaning up a bunch of water just because of some small piece of sediment or crud messing up your valve.

Rick is correct.....put those filters back before you turn the water back on...

I only removed the black ring from mine and left the orange piece in place...

in addition, you may want to add washer filters at the faucet, a lot easier to remove and clean as needed....

kool well right now the filters are soaking in vinegar ill reinstall them in the morning. i know not to run the machine without it.

And people think that they never get clogged!

 

With a hard water supply, as well as some sediment, you can clog up small areas VERY quickly. Here, if you don't descale your kettle every month, then you're looking at a new kettle in about 6months - a years time. So the washer's inlet valves, receiving water from a water heater that might have hardness sediment in it, and the cold with the hard supply could very well clog the screens. 

 

After the night in Vinegar, give them a nice little scrub with an old toothbrush to make sure the screen is completely clear.

Water restrictors

This same thing happen with dishwashers. Here in Mexico almost everyone has this problem and don´t use their machines because they don´t wash correctly. I´ve removed this restrictors to a couple of dishwasher and now they wash flawlessly

Just today I got a call from a neighbor who is having a problem with a Kenmore 2000 model TL machine. It was slow filling last summer so he took out the screens on the fill valves. Now the machine "fills itself" with water to the point of overflowing when the machine is turned off and not in use. Fortunately the washer is in the garage and the flood doesn't do any damage. If the laundry room had been in the house it would have been a mess.

So I told him to turn off the water valves to the machine and I'll order a new fill valve for him.

These Plugs

are they the same in the new front loaders where hot water is being restricted? I may have to purchase a new front loader sooner or later, would be good to know.

that is possible....each machine will be different......and some you can't change at all....

seems the more we by-pass.....the more they try to stop us from doing so, or at least making it more difficult!

for a SQ TL, the HOT sides opening was made smaller to dub down the temp......

for the Cabrio, theres a restrictor on both valves.....but this didn't control water temp, just how fast the water entered.....Auto Temp controlled the actual temperatures...

Saw it done

on you tube with a new LG front loader, they used a y connector on the hot faucet and one on the cold water inlet valve on the machine joined with another washer hose, very tricky but it worked.What I don't understand is why they keep trying to change this hot water usage, the more opposition the more inventive ways to keep it from changing. I wonder are they allowed to do this with the institutional machines like they are with households, or has this already taken place?

oh yeah....things with the "Y" connectors can be done a number of ways.....

I did this years ago when an issue with my brothers girlfriend used to wash one outfit at a time, full water level, and all hot wash....with simple "Y" connectors with valves and backflow preventers, I was able in an instant make the machine fill cold from both valves, and didn't have to turn off the Auto Temp Control.....she never knew the difference...

I hate that we have to reserve to manually adjust the temps, but it looks like it is coming to this in the future.....seems like it would be best to buy a BOL machine, and work it yourself....seems like were going backwards in technology....you will probably get a better clean and rinse by washtub and scrub board!...your most likely better to grab a wringer or twintub now....

Yes,

may have better luck with finding twin tub or portable auto than a wringer,and it may be a choice one may have to make with the way the new machines are being made.

one of our members has an Avanti portable/convertible machine, for a 12lb load, it does nicely for an impellor machine, and the cycles variations are endless, and there is no Auto temp or dub down....plus an automatic detergent and fabric softner dispenser, and manual clean lint filter built in.....and check this, Variable water levels!!!

I rather have one of these than the Cabrio I have!
