Hello everybody. How was your Thanksgiving? I was wondering how the dispensers work. I have noticed when the detergent dispenses, the rinse aid dispenser clicks. During the final rinse, the rinse aid dispenser will click minus the flapping open sound of the detergent dispenser. Is rinse aid dispensed at the same time as the detergent or is it done separately? How is the operation of the dispensers accomplished? How does rinse aid get dispensed? I'd like to know. Thank you.

I know for sure that the PowerClean dispenses once along with the detergent release in the main wash, and again in the final rinse. I believe the same applies to the Voyager and new resource saver models.

On the PC, there are two actuator bars that are part of the dispenser assembly in the right side of the door, and they extend up to a wax motor just below the main logic board, where they are each attached separately to two small "hooks" of sorts. These two plungers operate separately, and when energized, they pull the actuator bars up. The dispenser door catch pivots and releases the door, and the rinse aid dispenser pumps a small charge of liquid out of the small port hole just inside the dispensers fill mouth.

I know that one because of restoring my PowerClean and the one my father in law now has. As for the newer style dispensers, I imagine they work in a very similar fashion, but you can look at videos such as RepairClinic to see the door disassembled.

Rinse Aide in the wash?

This is news to me......is it customary for rinse aid to be injected into wash cycles?
AND WHYYY??? 0.o

Like the older Frigidaire/Electrolux front loaders, Whirlpool also uses a spring mechanism as opposed to the more precise solenoid method. The problem is the springs stretch causing the dispensers to malfunction and release the ingredients way before the correct time. There are positions marked by numbers to increase or decrease the springs strength but why the manufactures don't note this in the owners manual is just one more nail in the coffin for my own interest in Whirlpool or any of their subsidiaries. Mine would drop the fabric softener in during the wash fill. My LGs never did that.
