My Whirlpool WTW4816FW3 top load washing machine (serial number CE0210262) started draining continuously without any lights on and it drains even with the lid open The washer does not stop draining until you cancel it, but it starts draining again.

It randomly started doing this. What can this be caused by? Washer is less than a year old.

Control board, or more likely the pressure transducer on said control board. There have been a lot of discussions here about premature control board failures on Whirlpool made washer on this site and among repair techs in general these last few years.
Chet Man!..... you said a mouthful!

Another reason why I'll stick to my 39 year old Maytag!

The pressure transducer (water level sensor) on the board gets stuck or malfunctions such that the control board "thinks" there's a flood/overfill condition which makes it run the pump continuously, even when the machine is otherwise not operating. There's a Service Bulletin for the problem related to a batch of bad pressure tranducers that were put on the boards during manufacture (of the boards, not the machine as a whole). It applies to specific models (of which your machine is one) but also a specific range of serial numbers of which your machine is not. Your next move should be to contact a servicer or Whirlpool directly to inquire whether the date range perhaps has been increased since the bulletin was issued.

Here's a link to a post that references the recall Service Bulletin: F3E1 Fault or Pump Running Continuously

Bad control board. Common issue on these newer Whirlpools, probably pressure transducer. Your model was manufactured on January, 2025 according to the serial number so it’s not even a year old.

Hi Jake, 19

As others have mentioned, it sounds like it has a pressure transducer on the control board that has failed, whirlpool had a problem as others mentioned with this with machines that are a little older than yours, the good news is it’s a free repair call for a repair as soon as possible.

It’s been over a decade as a whirlpool dealer since we’ve seen a whirlpool washer or dryer for that matter that had a failure within the first year of warranty their quality control like most manufacturers is excellent, and this is a quick and easy repair. It won’t affect the long-term durability of the washer.
