1977?

i could easily be wrong, but from what i've noticed from my
WP/KM machines and others i have gotten a detailed look at,
the first # is the year while the 3# after that are julian
date of production(1-365),so if i am correct the washer was
made the 300th day of 1977.Other clues can provide the decade
of production.that looks like a BD 24",same basic mechanical
parts as fullsize BD,but uses polygroove belt and matching
pulleys.

I always try this web site first to date an appliance:

And here are the results: And they agree with "cfz2882"

Brand: Whirlpool
Type:
Country: USA
Model: LFB5300Y0
Serial: C73001586

This product could have been manufactured on multiple dates. Personal assistance will be needed to date the product more accurately.

This product could have been manufactured the 30th week of 1977 or 1987. (WP-USA)

LFB is a 24" belt-drive model, IIRC. F there indicates 1978 model year.

Serial C730 indicates manufacture in 30th week of 1977. 7 is either 1977 or 1987 (or 2017 coming up - 1997 is G, 2007 is U) ... which for an LFB or LFA model of that vintage, it must be 1977.

More personal assistance can I give Mike. Its a BD and has a water fall lint filter that donen't work. I think its been disconnected. It is a cool machine. I think its in need of some new bearrings as it is really load when it spins. As for the dryer I no its older just buy looking at it. It has a few problems.

Definitely a 1977 model. If nothing else, the chrome handle is a dead giveaway, as 1977 was the last year those were available for Whirlpools.

Have a good one,
James

24" BD 1977 WP washer

Great little washer. This washer uses the regular 95405 belt that 99% of all WP BDs used, its needs a three port water pump for the lint filter to work, a four port pump will not work unless drill a hole in the side of the outer tub and plumb in a water source for the lower pump. Some thing I wouldn't even try. A WP of this age may be starting to have some serious issues with center post seals and bearings look under the washer and check for any brown or black stains spraying on the inside the cabinet which usually indicates water getting into the main bearings. A stain next to the pump may just be a bad water pump or even an old stain from the original water pump.If it needs main bearings and seals you are in for a very serious repair.

And the control panel

It only has 3 cycles, Normal, PP, Short, 3 water temp, and only one water level. I have never seen a washer do 2 cool down rinses and then a finaly rinse on the PP cycle.
