Sandy,
You are absolutely correct.
I am a big fan of the "real" DUAL Hi-Fi products. About 10 years ago, I made the mistake of buying a very well styled radio/cd player.
One of the biggest pieces of junk I have ever seen. My mistake, I should have checked - but that was precisely what the manufacturer wanted...it looked and felt on the outside like DUAL, but inside it was just trash. The brand name had been sold to some cheap outfit in the far east.
Upshot? I never, ever buy DUAL or AEG or any of the other household stuff on the market now-a-days. Once burned, twice shy.
Whirlpool's marketing idiots are obviously drinking their own joy-juice, no other way to explain this.
Put Maytag away for a few years. Let some grass grow over their grave. Then resurrect them as a genuinely high-quality, premium priced brand.
The US market was protected for far too long. The only thing keeping consumers "true" to their domestic brands is the lack of experience with the good foreign brands (and stupidity like LGs customer service). As soon as the consumers realize that the US brands no longer are better - just more expensive - that will be all she wrote.
Was that way with consumer electronics. Is that way with cars. But it just does not seem to be a lesson worth the learning in the domestic industry.
