Hi all I was looking for a local source of sodium tripolyphosphate in the Tucson area. At my local Albertsons supermarket I ran across White King water softener. Its main ingredient is tripolyphosphate, a 4lb box sells for about $5.00.

This stuff is great . . .

I have used it in the past, and it is readily available at our major supermarket chain here in West Texas. I do, however, prefer using straight STPP from the Chemistry Store (online). I believe that White King also uses sodium carbonate along with the STPP, so it is not pure.

Shouldn't need any with your Foca, though, as that stuff is loaded with phosphates. I use STPP with just about everything else, however, including German Persil and SA8 Bioquest.

Enjoy!

Nice to know the White King laundry booster is still out there. It disappeared from my local market shelves a couple of years ago, so I thought it was discontinued.

I use STPP I buy in bulk from a local chemical supply warehouse.

Quite recently, I tried washing some bath towels in just STPP with 10% sodium silicate (the same stuff that "protects washer parts"). Interestingly, it gave enough suds that I didn't have to add any soap or synthetic surfactant. The results were clean and soft enough that I'd do it again. I have some 100% NP9 (Tergitol-9) surfactant I can use in case there are zero suds. I imagine a little liquid detergent would work, as well.

The advantage I see in using STPP is that there could be little to no "encrustation" that one sees with conventional detergents that contain a lot of sodium carbonate (washing soda) or even sodium citrate (in most liquids). The result could be a softer final result.

This experiment is ongoing, and not intended to indicate proof one way or the other.

Hi Rich. I order STTP online. I am spending New Year's in
Palm Springs, Ca. but when I get back, I can give you the info.
I add extra STTP to Viva and clothes come out great.
