Hi all i see we always have a debate worst washer but how about dryers just for once I understand this is a washer site no offense to anyone but i think we change it and see so lets go. thank you john

My nod for worst dryer goes to the Norge/Wards Signature vented dryers that blew hot air into the dryer drum (positive air flow)instead of pulling it out (negative air flow) like nearly all other vented dryers. The result was a lint-o-rama. Lint would quickly collect in the interior of the dryer, not to mention the area surrounding it.

that's true about the lint...

...but that huge Norge blower and the way the air entered the drum made for super-fast drying at fairly low temperatures. The opposite was true for the Frigidaire Filtrators which dried with such high heat that stuff that went in white came out pastel yellow. And that awful slide out Filtrator unit was almost impossible to clean. The Norge's at-the-floor lint screen was no picnic either. Our Norge owner's manual showed how to use the dryer to cool pies (really) using the "Stop n' Dry" feature and the drying rack. I'm sure any pie would have come out looking like coconut.

I would love to tell the group about my Mom's Apex gas dryer and how it operated, but I'm not sure anyone is interested.

don't want to get slapped

This section of the Discuss-O-Mat is supposed to be for modern or current appliances and the Apex is far from that. I could start a thread in another area, it's a fun story.

The worst dryer I had to use was a Hotpoint from the late 70's, early 80's. The type made by GE, the front top half of the cabinet is the whole door. Quite ugly styling if you ask me. The thermostat was wrong from the day we got it. It took more than an hour to dry a full load of towels. If not an hour and 1/2. The drum was black, with some white speckles. No drum light. it was so dark in there. I hated that dryer. The inner door was always dusty with lint. And the matching washer, the Hotpoint with the the tub ring filter. The equivalent of the GE filter flo without the filter flo. LOL. The noisiest washer we ever had. that's why I hate the filter flo washer and dryer sets. They are horrible.

Now I am so glad I have the Whirlpool machines in my house. Top Loading, contrary to popular beliefs on this site, it does not shred anything. The Dryer is the 6.5 cubic foot with lint filter on top. Greatest dryer. quiet and fast, and I use low heat setting most of the time.
That's my opinion, my friends.

worst dryer ever made

I think the worst dryer ever made was the (montgomery ward) made (wizard citation) badged dryers, besides there being a ton of lint blown into the dryer like mentioned previously, ours being a new one at the time would take 1 1/2 hours to dry a load, and when we bought the washer and dryer the door would not stay shut on it, mom called the service guy out and he brought with him 8 dryer door fronts with him and we went through 5 of them before we found the one that would stay shut. i didnt like them at all.

I would say the Montgomery Wards dryer. We had one at the salon back from the late 70's. If I didn't take it apart completely ever 6 months and vaccuum it out, you could be sure of a fire. Had at lest 3 different fires in that thing. The last time it happened I said enough is enough and out it went.
