Who said match sets are hard to find?

Well, as you may recall, last year Tom (turbomatic) and John (Combo52) arranged for me to get a very nice 1964 Maytag a702 as a gift in need of transmission repair.  I brought it to Ohio with me to get Dave (Volvoguy87) and Wes (elginkid)'s help to bring it back to life... While here I found a 1964 de702, the exact match to the washer here needing a timer rebuild.  We should be working on both later tonight.

And earlier this year, I picked up a 1953 or 1954 Westinghouse D-6 in Ohio.  It plays "How Dry I Am" and works perfectly.

Well...

On Wednesday, I picked up the matching washer!  A 1953 or 54 Westinghouse Laundromat LB-6M!  It was quite the sturggle.  It was in a woman's basement with a only a 3 foot wide "L" shaped stairwell which at it's tightest had about 5 feet of headroom.  No wonder this (and Dave/Volvoguy's 1965 model) were down there all this time.  It took 4 and a half hours with some disassembly, but the owner, some of her friends, and myself were able to get the machines out of the basement in pieces and into the van.

You can be sure she was dirty as you can see in this cleaning shot.

While there is some rust to deal with...

She cleaned decently.  Nothing too horrible.

YAY!!! I'm so glad my washer has a partner!

I would say the WHs are in great shape considering how Westinghouse figured out a way to apply paint only one molucule thick. They were in close running with Hamilton, but I think Westinghouse won.

The insides are in pretty good shape.  She'll need a new boot, hoses and belts, but not bad considering...

The floor will have to be replaced, but still excited!

For an added bonus, look what I found in the basement when I picked them up (see them holding the tub of the machine)!  The original shipping brackets for both machines!  Special thanks to Paul (turquoisedude) for letting me borrow his set, without seeing them I wouldn't have known what I was looking at and not have gotten them.

Very Cool Sets

set of Maytags. A700S and DE700
thanks to Ted in Maryland --
Sept 1961. They're white like
yours. I really Want Turquoise
or Yellow, but couldn't pass
on the chance to have a matched
Maytag set.

The Westinghouse Slant Front is my
first Choice of a Front Loader.
I hope to have a set of those
as well.
