Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The ones I saw growing up had chrome racks. Interesting and remarkably clean underneath. CU recommended that a line switch be put in so that heater for the UNINSULATED hot water tank could be switched off until the machine was going to be used.

1955ish?

When they introduced the 30" front-load model, they continued production of the top load version at the same time.
Like the Westinghouse pull-out dishwashers, they used the old style (top load) as their budget model, which would explain the elimination of the window lid.

Well glad to know I remembered something else right from a child.  My "grandparents" in Dallas had a Youngstown dishwasheer that had red coated racks and the windowed lid.   Thus far, all the ones I've seeen in the various collectors' collection here has had the metal racks only.
