YAY, then OY

What beauties!! They seem to be very clean as well, but...you just can't keep using a machine if there's a water or oil leak--you have to fix it! I'm thinking the seal between the transmission case is causing the oil leakage, and the brake/basket drive assembly is causing the weak spin. There was a BOL (ugly) 1973 Kenmore at an estate sale in May that had the same problem--I fired it up and couldn't get it to spin without giving the tub a "push" first...it just hesitated. Even though these need some TLC they're definitely worth it, IMHO!! I wonder what the reserve is...

As for the "neglect" part, OY, some people are just plain ignunt!!

Cast Iron Engine? Do you put premium in it? Where's the fill cap? Didn't know they put engines in that model.

They usually leak oil when the agitator shaft seal goes bad letting water run down into the transmission displacing the oil which runs out the top of the trans. Could be a belt slipping but more lilely the clutch needs adjusting or is worn out or sticking. If it has been leaking water on the clutch and actuator rod the acutator rod may not be dropping down in spin far enough. This could be the cause the spin problem.

Very nice looking washer and dryer, but they really are NOT a matched set. The dryer is the TOL but the washer is a MOL model. The leak and the spin problem with the washer most likey indicates bad bearings, not an easy fix. Still, if these were closer...they sure are beautiful!
