with multifunction ovens sold in the EU?

First I want to explain what I consider as a multifunction oven. Most brands consider a multifunction oven as an oven with a heatsource at the bottom, one at the top or a seperate broilerfunction, and a fan to distribute the heat evenly. Some add an element around the fan, some not.

Brands who produce cookers, do offer a stove with an electric multifunction oven. Some brands offer a dualfuel type with a gas cooktop and electric multifunction oven. But no brand (or at least I found...) offers a gas range with a gas oven with a fan to distribute the heat inside the oven cavity. Unlike the US where there are "gasconvection" ovens where a fan distribute the heat.

Is is the lack of intrest in such type of ranges? Is it a safety issue? Or are there gasovens with a fan available for the EU-market?

I like to hear all thoughts and all input :)

I attached the link to a Bosch gasrange US-model, as an example for what I'm looking for in a gas multifunction-oven

I guess nobody wants a gas oven here. People who buy range with gas burners go for the dual fuel ones with an electric oven. The electric ovens are more versatile and they only need a regular outlet, no need for a special connection, so the choice is easy.

But if you are looking for a gas range with a multifunctional gas oven, try searching for a Boretti. They have models with gas ovens. I don't know what in what country you are searching, but Boretti seems to focus mainly on the Netherlands, Belgium and France IIRC.

Hi Foraloysius,
As I live in Belgium I first checked the belgian websites. Ten years ago, the Dutch productrange of many rangebrands offered more "gasversions" of their cookers than in Belgium. Due to the cheaper gasprices I guess.

I looked at your suggestion and I must say i'm impressed, Boretti is the only brand I found up to this moment, offering such models. Thanks for pointing out.

I guess you missed the Boretti's, aren't they available in shops in Belgium? Therefor my question in what country you were looking.

A friend of mine has a 60cm wide Boretti, but he has problems with the oven. I think the oven is not calibrated right, it doesn't get up to temperature. He isn't bothered by it, because he has a few compact electric ovens (grill/bakovens) that he prefers to use.

There was a time we had a lot of gas ranges with gas ovens, but never with a fan oven. And the NL were one of the first European countries to have dual fuel ranges, IIRC Atag was an early adapter.

May I ask why you have a preference for gas ovens?

As a kid we had a gasrange (nestor martin). I loved the simplicity of it. The results in the oven where actually good. As electricity is getting ridiculously expensive here (the global cost went up by 40%) I was looking into alternatives for a versatile electrci oven. And I ended up on the other side of the ocean...

As you said mediamarkt and specs don't go very well together, the model in your link is a gas "natural convection" oven, no fan, but still thx :).

Boretti is not a mainstream brand here. It's sold through specialised interiordesignstores. That's why I did miss them.

At some point Nestor Martin's range division was sold off to a french company in 1985. By then they bought up a lot of brands for domestic appliances like Arhur Martin, Sauter, Rossières, etc. I think they are now part of Elux.

Nestor Martin became indeed a cheapmade range, without fancy features. Gasovens didn't feature electric iginition till after 2003 (till BSH offerend electric oven ignition). So the sale of Nestor Martin ranges droppend dramaticly in the early 90ties.

However the other stove division, making wood, coal and gas stoves, is still up and running, and was sold of during the 1980 aswell.

Askolover,

I was suprised to find gas "convection" ovens even existed! I'm glad to hear u like your mothers range. Is cooking in a gas "convection" oven really different? I would like to hear from all of you :)

A gas oven

can make a kitchen much hotter. My daughter has one, and it really heats up her kitchen. It is more humid heat, and better for certain breads, roasting, etc.
Electric was said to be more even heating, but a convection fan circulates the hot air. An electric convection oven has an extra heating element behind, or around the fan on higher end ovens, but here in the USA, they use one element or the other, not both or all three.
Mine has a multi-rack setting for the third element and fan, or regular bake, or plus fan using the upper and lower elements. Convection roast only uses the upper broil element, and the fan does no reverse direction every two minutes.
So, if I am baking three racks of cookies, I use multi, but I preheat on regular bake first if they are dense batter cookies to heat the oven bottom up. Same for a deep cake, or breads.
I found that convection isn't very usefull for a large turkey, but the automatic temp. probe is. On convection, the bird browned too soon even when tented with foil. Now a gas convection oven may be different, because of the moister heat.
Makers such as Miele, Gaggenau, Bosch, etc. have also steam option models now available.

I have loved using my gas range for many years, but since it's been so hot lately I am hesitant to even turn it on...oven or cooktop either one!  Sure I can turn on the vent fan, but that's 360cfm sucked out the roof and just makes the AC work even harder in this 60 year old house.  Since I got my induction cooktop I hardly ever turn on the range unless I'm cooking multiple things at once or it's something that won't fit into the toaster oven or Sharp Convection/Microwave oven.

Mom's oven is basically just a standard gas oven with the fan in the back to help circulate the heat.  I could have opted for one when I bought mine but just didn't do it. Then when she bought hers, I fell in love with it.  Oh well, too late now.  When I use hers, I decrease the temp by about 25F or 50F.  But it makes for an even baking experience....and both of our ovens bake pretty evenly anyway.
