Wizard

I just watched my DVD version of the movie and while it's true that the red patch of the open trap door appears well before Hamilton gets to her mark, I don't see any sign of her dropping through it - it's all obscured by red smoke. Now perhaps it was digitally enhanced with more red smoke to obscure her than was in the original version... which I have on VHS somewhere, but I'm too lazy to go find it just to settle this point.

Some say that the scene that made it to the movie was the first one, where Hamilton was not burned. They did a retake at the end of the day (perhaps due to the trap door showing in the first take) and that was the one where she was burned severely on her hand. Or so I have read that Hamilton stated in various interviews. In any case, despite the glitch, it's a wonderful movie.

What about in the new Hairspray Movie

It takes place in the early spring of 1962 (I forget the exact date on the newspaper left on the Turnblad door step)and yet one of the cars on the street is a red 1963 Chevrolet Biscayne 4 door sedan...that was not introduced until later that fall......PAT COFFEY
