Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

as a frigidaire rollermatic collector

i have enjoyed both the washer and dryer threads you have posted! i love these old 65 models and have 2 washers and one dryer from 1965.

i also remember well that display shown in the washer sales brochure. the one with an actual rollermatic transmission you could crank to see how it operates. the appliance store where i lived had that display and i was fascinated by it!

i did not know the dryer could be sold with an optional condensor for ventless drying. and what a unique option for draining it by having the matching washer siphon it into it's drain hose!

i really think frigidaire had it goin on back in the 50's and 60's! very innovative!

thanks again for a lot of great reading material and happy memories!

Awesome Ken!

Thanks for the great scans!
I forgot that the Gas models had the burner assembly on top.
These were great dryers!

Sorry

My dad got us a new '65 Imperial gas dryer when I was 10. Cool(cold?) looking machine. I was doing the wash then. First dry with the new Frig,I thought maybe it was quicker(HA!)than the '60 Norge it replaced. I opened the door after it had been running towels about 30 minutes. Still damp. Shut the door and a burst of FLAMES shot out around the top edges of the dryer & scared(scarred?) crap out of me. I NEVER opened the door during a cycle again & never 'warmed-up' to that dryer.

Sorry William....

but your post made me laugh so hard playing your description in my head!
I hope you got over your fear of gas dryers!
I wonder what went wrong?
How long did your family keep the dryer?

Frigidaire Dryers!

In my openion these were very well made dryers. I actually think they were made a lot better than the 1/18 dryers.
I am also impressed with the filtrator process. I remember Hotpoint and Maytag also made non vented dryers. Does anyone else know if other companies made the non-vented units, and was Frigidaire the last to make them? It would be interesting to start a thread on non-vented dryers from all other companies and compare. To bad nothing like that is made today. Hard to believe that technology has went backwards.
Thanks for posting,
Peter

Better Now...

Brent,You would haved cracked up watching me run all the way from one end of our basement, upstairs & OUTSIDE before I slowed down!I don't know what caused the flame(gas valve didn't completely shut off??). We only kept the Frigidaire till about 1968 when, after months of nagging,my dad relented & bought a LK to match the '67 LK washer I'd begged for. Loved that set, though w/the vari-flex,the LOW water level came just under the top row of holes(Too high for me). It would suds lock easily, too. AND my dryer had the felt applied a little crooked around the inner fange that the drums plastic 'bearing' rode on. This allowed a 'slap-slap' of the plastic till it warmed up. Had Sears service out for the water level-''Normal on this model'' & the felt. Said the felt wasn't going to hurt the operation & I didn't push the issue. I miss those beautiful, character filled machines a bunch.

Ventless Dryers!

I remember Frigidaire Maytag Hotpoint made ventless dryers. Anyone have brochures on these dryers to post? I am interested and was Frigidaire the last to make them?
Thanks
Peter

Ventless Dryers

Am not totally sure, but back when one was in school our "home ec" classroom had a water condenser dryer, and one *thinks* it was made by Whirlpool.

Know it was ventless because one day assisted one of the home economics teachers do some washing (used/unclaimed gym uniforms), and watched in amazement as she had to turn on a water tap before starting the dryer. Teacher did complain about having to use said dryer during a recent water shortage.

Thing was the same as any other dryer one had seen before, just didn't understand at the time why it needed water. Until such time every dryer one had ever seen was the vented through the wall types like the Whirlpool we had at home.

Condenser Dryers!

I could be wrong but I dont think whirlpool made a condenser dryer. I thought it was just maytag hotpoint frigidaire that made them. Also I dont think you needed to hookup to cold water like a washer dryer combo. Anyone with more knowlwdge want to comment or download more info?
Thanks
Peter

I do know that the Maytag condenser that my Aunt had, had to be hooked up to the cold water.
