I read a post, from drmitch, on Imperial, about his newer Kenmore DD set, in the house he just bought.
I lamented the noise of the Dual Action agitator as I am wont to do.
Drmitch told me a replacement drive system for the upper agitator is available for some models and to ask if it was available for my machine.
Nothing I could find on the parts list indicated the answer, so I left an email for Sears.
The response: We do not give free tech or diagnostic advice. You will need to schedule a service call to have your question answered.
Does a tech head know if there is an auger dog/drive system, for the upper agitator, the racheting part, that quiets the operation of the agitator?
I have a model 110 98576200.
Thank you,
Kelly

Kenmore Gods so no to Dogs

SactoTeddyBear, suggested I look on line at the Sears parts lists for the auger parts needed to make the ShredMore Shredder shred.

I have complained endlessly about the noise of the clacking Kenmore/Whirlpool DualAction agitator from the DD systems.

Mr. Bear suggested checking the Sears parts site to see if a "New and Improved" system was available for my model, making the agitator quieter.

I found the site, found the parts, but was unable to find out if the parts listed were "New and Improved".

My question to the Sears parts computer interface was whether or not, there were improved parts available for my machine.

Answer..... No free technical adivice given. To have the question answered, I would to schedule and pay for a service call.

HOLD IT!! DROP EVERYTHING!!!

Eureka, the litmus test of my query, "Why deal with Sears when you can buy the same machine from an independant, i.e. Whirlpool?"

You saw it here first, folks, Kelly's mind fomenting a plan.

I will try asking Whirlpool, the same question, at their site, pretending the machine is a Whirlpool and see if the response is different.

I wat with bated breath...

Kelly, I do that all the time with Apple Germany and Apple US. Apple US is committed to customer service, Apple Germany routinely wins the "worst service provider" award for all of Germany. The US site is friendly, cooperative and eager to keep their customers. The German site is just plain horrid.
Have been told that Apple is going to outsource their German site to the Indians - am curious to see what happens. Can only get better.
By the way, there are lots of Kenmore fan clubs out there - I used one to get the parts for my folks ancient (and excellent) Recipie 300 when it broke last year. Maybe one of those folks can help you?

New Best Friend

I spoke with a women at Whirlpool, named Jackie, regarding my Kenmore washer.
She indicated there where two types of dogs that run the top half of the agitator.
I explained my goal was to make it operate more quietly.
When it came to actually ordering the part, I had to come clean and admit I had Kenmore. She laughed and said, "Kenmore never made a part or a machine so its all Whirlpool to me."
She then asked permission to call me back so she could ask the advice of the tech department on which part to use to make it quieter.

The part number choices are 800400 and 285751.

Now, for me, that was a whole lot easier than the Sears experience.

Kelly

Thanks again, sacto!

The #80040 is a pack of dogs. The 285751 are the dogs & the cam that they sit in. I'm not really sure that these parts are "new & improved." I think that they are the typical dog sets.

Kenmore/Whirlpool Agitators

I have not found any difinitive answer.

Kenmore was not helpful.

Whirlpool was great on the 800 line.

I registered with a Yahoo appliance repair group and one of them said I should get the model number from a new machine. Go to a Sears parts store and request an agitator drive system and inspect it to see if there is any change.

Mostly, all techs don't see the rachet clack as noise and keep wanting me to look deeper.

Some have suggested a straight vane but I don't want less wash action.

It is all further occluded by the fact I have a smaller capacity stacked unit and my auger is only 12 inches and not 14. However I assume the drive is the same.

I will sit down and have a strong talk with myself and learn to ignore the 12 inch clacker.

Maybe that's why my lower back and hips are shot!

Kelly

oh, kelly

just 12 inches?
You poor baby.
No wonder it clacks in and out.
Hey - I think I got an e-mail about how to add on a few inches this morning. Shall I check?
Seriously, if the noise bothers you, it bothers you. Me, it would drive crazy.
