Continous Cleaning Ovens!

I like the Continous Cleaning ovens and if you take care of them they were fine. I know most people don't like them but they are fine for me. We once had a crown continous clean and my mother liked it. I think they should make ovens with removeable teflon panels to clean. To me they are all just as good if you take care of them.

Continuous cleaning!

We had a Frigidaire with the continuous clean oven, and liked it,if you wiped up spills and went by the directions it worked fine.

Oh by the way!!!

That range is FABULOUS!! My great Aunt had a woodtone brown one when I was a kid! Loved to go to Asheville to visit her, she drove a 60 Ninety Eight 4 door hardtop!!

I have a continuous cleaning oven, SMEG SC112NE2, the last one before the new model, with pyrolitic cleaning came out this year SPC112NE2 (51L) and big capacity SCP112N-8 (68L). I like continuous cleaning ovens better than pyrolitic ones as they keep clean during use and do not need the energy intensive cleaning cycle.
The old oven, with continuous cleaning too (here called pulizia catalitica) also from SMEG had its catalytic panels changed only once from 1979 and only because a plastic cup melted inside... :)

I run my clean cycle once a year (before the holidays) or maybe twice if I made a mess. I NEVER leave the racks in the oven, and there are many people who do not take them out... :-(

My mom had a Ward's Cont. clean oven, and it didn't work out as we thought it did.

Love Song

My greatest pleasure in all the world is cooking. As I cook, I wipe, clean and polish my appliances and tools that I sought out believing them to be the best available choices. My oven is always clean and shiny. I feel that a reflective and clean surface assists in the radiant browning while baking. It is my mission to die leaving every possession I own looking like the day I bought it. Using convection heat in the oven saves spills and runover from burning onto the bottom of the range. A quick and easy wipe is all it takes. I enjoy the self cleaning feature more for cleaning the rack and extranious cookware and yard sale finds. Self cleaning requires less time and creates less odors if it is cleaned more regulary.

Bobby, my aunt had an Americana similar to yours except she did have the selfcleaning oven so no sky view window, she had the window in the door. The side panels in the upper over came out and you put them in the big oven for cleaning. She said the early P7's got very hot on the outside.

I can leave my racks in my Profile oven as they are porcelain coated so you can. This is the third GE self cleaner in this house, since we bought it in 1984. The first one was a P7 and it cleaned great. The next one and current one clean ok but you have to make sure there is not alot of soil around the door opening. it does not clean there that well.

Why do we clean ovens?  Because we can!

The GE Profile (model JB968S0H1SS) in this house is the first self-cleaner I've had.  Like PARunner58's above, the racks are porcelain so can stay in.  I don't bake a whole lot, and try to not be messy when I do, so can get by with cleaning once or twice per year.

What ever happened

to this product over the years?
Is it still on the market?

Too Pleasant To Live Without

I agree with Jimmy, it is indeed good to have Bob back in the fray. I don't know anyone else that loves cake as much as me. All those classic appliances large and small, music to accompany it and easy on the eye to boot. Do I remember seeing vids of Philco with blades of water action on youtube? Good friends are missed and it always feels good to have everyone's feet under the "family" table.

what my dad meant by skivvys

If you were running around in your skivvys that meant you were around the house in your underwear. Does this mean you clean your oven with underwear ? Also you are so sweet Mixfinder you brought a tear to my eye.
