Why Even Bother?

Many of my posts are dead ends...

 

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">...sometimes I wonder if it's something I said or didn't say.  Who knows, and really who cares.  If my post is the last one, I just assume the post has run it's course and it's time for a new one.</span>

I don't always post a reply.

Many times I just scan, other times I go back and look at each thread that has not been read. 

 

Unless I have something to add, I usually just skip.    Just be aware that we are in the warmer months.  People are doing outside activities, lawn, garden etc. and may not always respond to you as quickly as you would like.

I gather that the OP has left, so the replies might be of little relevance, but in case he is still reading, OK. I understand where he is coming from, but I think it is just the nature of Internet forums. In all of the forums I have visited, I have noticed that very frequent posters become well known to other very frequent posters, and their threads get a lot of action simply because the participants have become familiar with each other. In contrast, infrequent posters sometimes get overlooked among the camaraderie. Often it is just the way it is. I am an infrequent poster; months might go by between posts from me because I only post when I feel I have something to say. I might not get a lot of replies, but I still like it here and enjoy reading the varied opinions of the members.

Not sure this helps at all, and maybe this an instance in which the infrequent poster probably should have refrained, but it is just my take.

Same here. As a result I now tend to filter out stuff I perhaps should not.

 

I'm another person who tries (not always successfully) to keep my mouth shut unless I believe I've something to contribute. Often a posting of interest to me will have to responses by me. 

 

Occasionally there'll be a posting on a topic on which I have a great deal of knowledge & experience AND had an impact on me. When that happens I tend to participate a little too enthusiastically.

 

It all ebbs and flows. I don't pay too much attention to that and don't take it personally.

I guess I'd question the expectations of the OP.  This site, like life, has a number of cliques.  Nothing wrong with that, but certain members tend to communicate with the same group.  Kind of hard to jump in sometimes.  I read whatever certain people post - for example I would not want to miss something Launderess posts, it's always informative or fun, just as Kevin always post great food items, and so on.  Lots of threads die, no reason to feel rejected.

 

I have a family member who goes through a similar thing fairly frequently.  He can be a fun guy but he has a dark side and if someone pushes his buttons, even unintentionally he will cut of the entire family for years.  It's his problem and quite honestly his loss, but he as done it so many times over the years that when he decides to come back I'm not sure want anything to do with him.  None of us deserve to be treated as he treats us and just because he is a family member we have given him a pass previously.  The OP strikes me that way.  We have no idea what is going on in his life, but that is no excuse to be rude to others.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've been on the net for a long time, I can't count the times I got ignored or was the last poster in a thread. I'm currently trolling AC/DC fans on another board who seem to think that Axl Rose was the best replacement for Brian Johnson (don't ask) on their current tour. The more mature side of me those has moderated large forum with over 700 post a day, adminned websites, moderated discussion groups.

**Off Topic** Artcurus-- I have never had a good word to say about Axl Rose (although I do like Slash's guitar work and Bolanesque top hat). My vote for a stand-in would definitely have been Noddy Holder from Slade. In fact, I remember reading that AC/DC tried to lure him away from Slade after Bon Scott's death.

God you have no idea how much a train wreck this AC/DC tour is. And the fans are tone deaf. Starting off with Axl in a chair for the first part of it. It looked beyond ridiculous. Angus needs to have a guitar shoved where the moon don't shine for this one. Axl is going to blow his voice before this is over, pretty much guaranteed because he's straining to hit the notes on both Bryan and Bon songs.

Most of the fans were saying that they though Marc Storace from Krokus would have been the best choice and were actually quite cool with Marc taking the helm. (He's almost indistinguishable from Bon sometime) And Marc could do both Bon and Brian with ease, had the stage presence, everything Case in point

Twintubber.. We are all involved in this hobby to fix things.
For me.. It bugs me not to. I have to figure out some way to fix things that most would consider a lost cause.
( i'm getting ready to post a thread about my last accomplishment ) I don't give up easy.
I wish I'd known how youd been feeling because.. Of course I'd have tried to fix it for you.
If you come back, I'll feel as though I at least had some hand in "fixing it" for you.
Try bumping your question about TSP, and see if it's catches on the second time around.
TSP, STPP, sodium carbonate, sodium borate, are usually subjects that always get comments.
Im interested in your finds. Bump your old posts and see!
If nothing happens, then I'll understand your disappointment, and quit nagging you to return.

If you desire more interaction and responses here FILL OUT YOUR PROFILE, I very seldom ever respond where someone wants to be anonymous, I have always figured they don't want any response and if they don't even have a name or a place on this planet I figure that it is not worth a response, I don't like talking to ??? a machine.

 

If people feel like they have nothing in common with you why respond ?

I noticed long ago on a gardening site that I used to frequent, that my comments were routinely ignored.  I thought I was writing interesting things.  But I also know that, unfortunately, something about me is very off-putting in real life, so I started to think that my strangeness was appearing in my writing as well.  At the time, I tried not to let it bother me, but one day, someone wrote a 1-sentence post about how it had rained the night before, and she got over 50 responses within the day.  Who knows why.  Maybe everyone was eager for rain and she just hit on a timely topic.  But little by little, I stopped going to that site and I certainly stopped posting.  I harbor no ill will about it.  It just wasn’t fun any more.  So I can understand TwinTubber.

 

I’m glad that on this site I get some responses and a few check marks.  But I still know I’m kind of ‘off’, so I’m aware that plenty of things I write will be ignored or—much worse—resented.  One plea I frequently make is that we remember that these are internet postings that often seem mean or cruel when they’re meant to be funny or silly or ironic.  I try not to take offense, no matter how bad it sounds, and I hope others can do the same with my posts.
