In 2003, a great darkness fell over the Land of Children's Literature. As in the Book of Revelation, an Anti-Author arose, spoke ill of all who write and illustrate children's books, and went on to be revered as a moral compass for a generation. Acres of forests were mowed down in Her Most Holy Name, gallons of ink were spewed onto continental expanses of paper and otherwise-sane people venerated her as a literary genius. How can pure, unadulterated evil blind so many?

For two long years we endured. At last, the fifth and final tome had been excreted, committed to the page and Sanity could safely come out of hiding. The sun could once again shine. Or so we believed.

Remember how every "good-versus-evil" motion picture epic ends. Evil is defeated and yet, we know evil can never be vanquished. While the good are distracted in celebrating its defeat, it gathers strength, prepares to strike again, and when we least expect it, it returns, more powerful, more horrifying than we could imagine. And so it is in life.

And so it is in life. . .

poor Madonna...she seems to aspire to being English. and the childrens book thing is sooo tired, everybody has done childrens books. childrens books are all about the illustrations.

But note that none of Madonna's books displays the illustrator's name on the cover. Compare that with how Jamie Lee Curtis shares the billing with her illustrator as equal partners:

Children's books by celebrities are the exception to the "don't judge a book by its cover" rule.

I could never stand

this woman. Sorry if I offend anyone here, could never see the entertainment factor.

I remember as a technician starting out in my career, assembling computers in a 105 degree warehouse while "Borderline" played over and over the loudspeakers. Our room was wired to a radio that played "hits". Literally it would play the top 10 all day, so you would hear this song more than a dozen times all day. It was that, "Let's hear it for the boy" and some Peaches and Herb song. In other words, the very worst of the 80s.

Then she was supposed to represent all young women. You couldn't have a worse roll model...someone that literally sexed her way to the top and was open about it. She's just a wierdo that wants to normalize her wierd behavior.

She's not attractive, she's nauseating, and she has been a caricature of herself for years. I wish she would ooze back into whatever hole belched her up.

I don't know what kind of people would buy her books for their kids. Nah, never mind. I live in LA. They consider a photographer here who torments children until they sob and then sells pictures of the screaming kids as some sort of artistic genius.

Don't get me started on the entertainment business.

Before we get too critical of the entertainment industry and the Arts, I'd like to suggest we clean up religion and politics first, which have more direct, tangible impacts on our day-to-day lives. People in entertainment and the Arts often live outside the boundaries of what we everyday Joes call normal. Oscar Wilde went to prison for it.

I've found it very easy to ignore Madonna for the past 25 years. Her existence and successes haven't bothered me in the least. She's a shrewd businesswoman who deserves the empire she's managed to create from the ground up (with fairly limited artisitic talents, no less). I find her music pedestrian and cliched, but 40 million albums (or whatever) weren't all purchased by her family members, you know. Obviously, many people around the world enjoy what she does.

To each their own. Patronize the artists and entertainers you appreciate and ignore the others.

And don't throw the word 'weird' around too lightly; After all, we're the ones passionate about washing machines and vacuum cleaners, for Christ's sake.

there is nothing wierd about Madonnna. she is an intelligent, selfish, showoff-ham/attention whore with a dash of manipulation ,discipline and hard work thrown in. she dares to be her own person, and since folks are generally too meek to allow that in themselves, they look up to her. i used to worship her.

This new book is for children 4-8, yet people who bought it also bought Brokeback Mountain. Did mommie buy the video for herself and the book to keep the kid quiet, happy and out of the way through the three towel weeper?

Madonna still has it though.....

I bought her CD "Confessions on a Dance Floor" about a year ago. Don't usually listen to "pop" anymore, however this cd was worth buying. It is very good. I never was a huge Madonna fan, although I bought a few of her albums in the early 1980's. I have never read any of her books, and do not care about any artist's personal life. Most of the artists of the Rap and Hip-Hop cd's that I purchase were/are thugs and I don't care about that either. I listen to what I like, at the time I choose to listen.

Eugene, I have to agree with you on what you said about cleaning up religion and politics. Now those things are both in sorry shape. I really do not think it is any business of either, where I choose to place my penis. Is it really that important to them? And do they really care, or are they just putting us on? From what I read in the daily news, there are far more important issues that should be dealt with.....

Proceeds

I could of misunderstood, running up and down the hallway getting ready for work. But Madonna's or someones children book, was touted as forwarding proceeds to a Meal program to benefit children in Africa, did I misunderstand? I hope I heard it right. alr2903

I generally don't like Madonna's stuff either, but I was given a copy of "Don't Cry for me Argentina" on laserdisc. This woman actually has talent and class, and this musical proves it. Unfortunatley, she chooses not to use it to further her career!

The one song I do like from Madonna however is "Vogue" that came out in the late 80's. It's got a nice, catchy beat to it, and sounds like there was a bit more care in the engineering and production of this song than any of her other stuff.

IMO, her debut album titled *Madonna* is her best, bar none! Produced by Reggie Lucas. Lucas had previously done excellent work with Stephanie Mills (*Put Your Body In It* and *Never Knew Love Like This Before*) and Mtume (*Juicy Fruit*).
