You are right, of course, about independently owned business. Here the mom-and-pop appliance dealers belong to an association called Brand Source, which gives them some buying power and a good product line diversity. We finally found a dishwasher for mom at a locally-owned store here. It was about $25 more than the similar model HD displayed, but didn't stock. However, the price included delivery and installation.
