Made so as the mixer rocks back and forth, it blends all the ingredients, works pretty well.

These are so cute - I've seen the mixers but always missing the bowl. Did they sell them without the mixing lap-pool?

Yes..I have 2 of the standard portables..
Believe it or not, it is a great design, almost like you hold a whisk.

Its astounding the ideas design departments come up with and manufactures go to market with. I remember when this hit the ads, just before Christmas. A year later they were gone. The amount of money spent had to be formidable. Consumer Guide showed a picture of it going too far on the end of it's travel in heavy batter. My wonder was how unweildly is a square bowl full of batter to pour and scrape?

I have that same Rock 'N Mix with the drink mixer, knife sharpener and instruction booklet. Nice little mixer, though I generally use is as a hand-held without the bowl.
It should have had a mercury switch like the AMP to cut power before it moved too much out of the vertical or at least stops molded into the support to prevent unintentional batter applications to surrounding surfaces.
Real nice,, on my to get list as well. Presto always seemed to come up with some strange stuff.
The brochure that came with the Presto pressure cooker I bought as a gift for my mother promised a laser can opener.
Still waitin' for it.

The Presto Co. had some very unique products over the years when their main mfg. facility was in Eau Claire, WI. My parents have the Presto Hot Dogger which electrocutes the weiners, and I love my Super-Speed perc which may have been one of the first completely immersible percolators. Their pressure cookers are still some of the best IMO.
