Will the recipe for this home brew version of "Shout" work?

Like everybody else here, I look to save money. A friend of mine recommended this home brew recipe to use as a laundry pre-wash spray instead of "Shout". Will it work? I have my doubts.

1/2 cup Downy mixed in enough warm water to refill empty "Shout" bottle.

The most effective pretreating formula was in the metal aerosol cans and the formula contained dry cleaning fluid.

I almost regret posting such an obvious question now, but the person who made the recommendation is a very good friend and she went as far as to buy a bottle of Downy for me ... so you see I'm going to get a follow up "How did it work?" question and I have to give a careful reply.

Thanks for the info list: I hope you didn't have to type that all out. Was particularly interested to see that there was an enzyme component to Shout. It was my understanding from earlier posts here that pre-sprays like Shout is where the enzyme additives back in the 70's all went.

Tom, what is the most effective pre-treatment on the market?

Tom, You mentioned the efficacy of cleaning fluid in aerosol cans. I assume that was carbon tetra-chloride as the active agent. Do you recall about what time it was removed from the market?

I mostly copied and pasted it, but had to tweak the formatting. No biggie!

There is still an aerosol Shout that works very well on oily stains, but it will damage or even take the finish off a washer or dryer if you overspray, so I tend to use it sparingly. I believe that dry cleaning fluids like Stoddard solvent are forbidden in any application now. Launderess or Stan or Tom Turbo will know, among others.

Not sure how you should break the news to your friend...

Bill, my can of SHOUT ADVANCED Formulated for Greasy Stains just says "contains petroleum distillate" under the DANGER portion of the label. No other ingredients are listed.
