Winter madness: Raising a ruckus in Ruskin!!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Charlie and Tania

found a vac shop in Tampa that was loaded with old treasures.
Here is what they brought back...

There was a Westinghouse upright

in the haul, which it turns out was the same model machine Terry's mother had, so he gets to keep this one.

The real treasure in the haul

went to Charlie, a rather worn and battle-scarred Hoover model 102, which was all original!
Roger, Charlie and myself all worked on this thing!

The Hoover was a challenge

and being almost 90 years old was a little reluctant to run. However the vacuum experts prevailed, and the Hoover came to life for the first time in many years.

Wow, Beautiful home Terry! Thanks for sharing the party, It`s so much fun seeing your collections and everyone having a good time.

home safe and sound

Michael and I landed back in Chicago about 6:15pm. The temp is in the low 30's quite a departure from the 80 degrees we left this morning.
Thanks Terry for everything, it was a blast!

wow!

I got there at about 11:30 on Saturday and spent the whole day with this group. It took me about an hour and twenty minutes to drive there from where I live. Surprisingly, my 1984 Fiero didn't compliain too loudly! This was my first time ever meeting anyone from the group (or ANYONE who is into vacuums besides myself for that matter)... what lovely people. Everyone was nice and so funny and carefree. It was great!

Terry, thank you for inviting me. Your home and cleaners are beautiful... as are your mixers and laundry appliances... and that nearly silent GE Profile dishwasher was very admirable. You are a great host and a very sweet person, thanks again for inviting me! I was honored to have been included.

Scott and I also know each other from a cooking forum and have been talking on the phone for a little over a year now, so it was especially nice to meet him and spend time with him.

Tanya, you were one of the highlights of my time there... so friendly and down to earth... I really enjoyed talking to and meeting you!

What else could anyone ask for... great food (when I was there, we had frozen lasagna, cold oven pound cake, and pineapple upside down cake), great machines, and great people! A perfect day... I'm just sorry I had to work today... I wish the time was longer!

I didn't get to say good-bye to Morgan and Alan... you both just kind of disappeared, but it was nice meeting you as well and I hope you each have a safe trip home.

The ONLY thing I hated was leaving and saying goodbye!

Bobby

You guys look like you all had a wonderful time!

Terry, your home is just beautiful! I LOVE it!!

OK, so I don't post for awhile and you guy's take off to Terry's and leave me here freezing my ass off. LOL!

Glad you all are having fun.

Beautiful house Terry!

Was that Greg cutting up meat? Did he eat it?

Strip down to your skivies and tan those white legs boyz. Your in Fl, after all.

Great pics! I'm just sitting here counting my chins - maybe I should leave the kitchen now and then!

We had such a great time and Terry was, of course, the perfect host!

It was so nice to meet a few new people and see so many good friends again. Wonderful weather, food and appliance fun - what more could a vacation have?

Jeff & Roger worked on a Hoover Convertible model 1010 that I sent down - one of the worst Hoover motors they'd ever seen! Overall the machine is in beautiful shape, but the motor was trashed. As seen in the pics above, those guys are experts and had that vac purring again in no time. Thanks again to you both and a big hug to Jeff for the "new" motor - I can't wait to get it home and use it.

Thanks again, Terry and everyone for making this last week one of my best vacations ever!

Fun, Fun, Fun!

It is great to see happy faces together and having fun. Terry, I could just smell the coffee in the pictures of the kitchen! (BTW, Terry makes the best coffee in the world!) It was fun to talk the other day. Jeff, I love those little lizards. Don't you just want to hug 'em and squeeze 'em? Good finds, Tania and Charlie! Can't wait to see everyone in August. GadgetGary, stop drooling over Terry's Maytag. You really have become a Maytag junkie. Sheeze! (LOL)

A Funny Story

One of the more funny stories during the trip to Ruskin. Greg had previously sent Terry a fabulous pink (PANK!) Maytag Highlander (mint.) Terry hooked it up and it was giving him some problems (as these vintage machines sometimes do) with sporadic performance with water temperature. What could the problem be? Well the Automatic Washer folks sent parts from far and near including temperature switches and water valves to cover all contingencies when they arrived. The machine was disasembled and diagnosed. After a few trips to the hardware store and installation of multiple parts, it was discovered that the problem was those darned new non-leak hoses. Install some good old rubber hoses and all was well. Look at the surgeons and assistant surgeons!

Those flood-saver hoses are evil

Excessive flow mechanically turns them off!

Funny to see a Maytag as rear-servicable with a one piece(i.e. three-sided) wrap-around cabinet and the motor in the rear!

Terry, do you have modern daily drivers? Is that garage set up a second set of hook-ups? :-)

No Steve the Maytag is not my daily driver. I had the hook-ups put in when the house was built just in case I got a a vintage machine. Inside I have the Kenmore HE4T's which I love. The Maytag is a beautiful machine and looks great in the garage. Damn those hoses. I spent $30 on them thinking that I would get only the best for my vintage Maytag and look what happened!!

It is so hard to believe that all the fun was just getting started a week ago. I want to thank all of you for your kind postings. I just wish that all of you could have been here. Roger and Michael left this morning and the house is way to quiet once again. It was such a pleasure to have everyone that was able to get down for this. We did have a great time. Believe me we have some fantastic cooks in this group, I know we all gained a few pounds but what a fun way to do it!! If any of you are every coming down this way be sure and let me know it would be great to have you for a visit!! I am so thankful that everyone got home safely. We all have to remeber just how blessed we are to have found one another!! Terry
