Have added 2 pics here--I've just pulled a basically new KD-18 motor out of a KDC-18 machine to transplant into my KDS-20 tank.

The current motor in the KDS-20 looks to be a more modern square style FSP KitchenAid replacement. I thought all these 18-20 series used the KD-18 motor...which is why I am attempting this change over. The current motor also has 3 wires (blk/white/yel +ground) versus the 2-wires (blk/white + ground) found in the KD-18 I want to install.

How do I deal with the yellow wire connection when the new motor does not have this?

Three Wire Motors For KD18-20 KA DWs

Hi Allen, you need to use the motor start relay for the 3WMs that is on the machine that had the 3WM, other wise they are completely interchangeable. If using the 2WM as a substitute for the 3WM connect the white wire from the machine to the WW on the older motor and the black wire from the relay directly to the black wire on the replacement motor.

YOU TOOK THE WORDS...

right out of my mouth, Dr.J.
I was going to also say, Allen, just connect the wires from the old motor as it shows on the wiring diagram on the inside of the door.
Why are you replacing the current motor anyway?

Don't break up a perfectly good machine that can work as a spare in times of heavy use, just get a spare motor. Many of us have spare motors.

John and STEVET--

Thanks both for chiming in! Grateful :D
I will get into the machine again tonight and see if I can make this work out as advised above. As I recall, though, this KDS20 wiring diagram is no longer in the door...regrettably. (but will double check). I've got diagrams for my 22 and 23 machines, but not this one!

Stevet--I'm pulling the KDS's unit out due to the pump being full of broken glass, and also the sounds of a bad bearing somewhere. As I have a fundamentally new/unused KD18 motor/pump assembly here it only seemed logical to install in the KDS-20 and I really expected I would have under 1/2 hour involved in doing this swap.

The "new" donor motor is out of a KDC-18 which I would never use in the first place (mainly due to lack of water heating element) What I did not think of was that there was a difference in wire count between the two motors I have on hand here.

I'm beginning to drown in 22 and 23 series parts...so in the unlikely event either of you guys need something in a pinch, I probably have it here for you!

Best,
Allen

Feeling DUMB!!!

Clearly I have too many KA's being worked on at the same time. KDS-20 wiring diagram right there--glued to the inside door liner. I gotta start working on these one at a time so I can avoid oversights like this.

UP AND RUNNING!

Thanks John and Steve for the guidance. This went quick, easy and painless. No pump seal leaks or problems. One minor drip from a hose to chase up, but nothing else. The thing runs beautifully.
