Betty Feezor...
In the days before cable TV,Food Network, even Julia Child,North Carolina had Betty Feezor, starting on WBTV Charlotte in 1953 she had a home making show 5 days a week...for over 23 years, and let me tell you..no matter where I was , if she came on you were QUIET, Everybody and I mean everybody who was home was glued to the tv from 1 to 1.30 pm Mon thru Friday, She was NOT a fancy chef like you get now , but a home economics teacher, her show had ,in addition to cooking, all aspects of home making, crafts, sewing, house cleaning tips etc,her 3 cookbooks consistently bring a high price on e-bay,her show was always rated higher than ANY show that was on at the same time...sadly, she found out in early 1977 she had cancer and had to give up her show, she passed away in early 1978, but a book about her life was written by her while sick, it was a column that she decided to place in the Charlotte Observer newspaper,to help others dealing with sickness, it ran the year she was sick, after her death it was put into book form in a book titled A Life That Mattered, she was a true Christian lady that even in sickness was interested in helping others,I remember watching her funeral which was broadcast live on WBTV and seeing my Grandmother cry thru the whole thing...that is what she meant to everyone who saw her, one of her last shows is on you tube, her son Bob has it posted, sadly there are only 2 of over 6000 shows in exisistence, look it up, it is totally different than the food network stuff.
